As usual, we see that the people running everything at Steemit INC don't really understand how human psychology works, or even pay any heed to all of their previous mistakes...

I am going to go point by point in a rebuttal against this most recent article on why they want to explore having free downvotes and how ill conceived it is.

Whenever your vote, whether it be an upvote, downvote, or changing your vote, some of this voting mana is used up. When it is all gone, your votes no longer impact rewards."

### The first problem I would note is that we shouldn't have to "belief in the wisdom of the crowd". There are a few people in a crowd who are wise, not the entire crowd(I wish this saying would die already). The entire REASON that using the "wisdom of the crowd" is wrong is that mobs/gangs/crowds of people frequently degenerate into tribal behavior that is non-rational and illogical. Someone who LEADS a crowd is said to be the wise person, not the crowd itself.

### The downvoting should consume your mana. If you want to downvote someone it should cost you, it shouldn't be free. If it is free to downvote someone you could just arbitrarily take potential Steem payouts away from people for free AND still upvote yourself for profit(this would create more selfish upvoting).

It then makes sense that if you greedily optimize your return on investment, you would only upvote content as downvoting it would be a waste of your precious voting mana."

### To most people that is simply untrue. There are a few exceptions, most people don't 100% upvote their 10 posts a day or every comment they make. It does make "financial sense" to only upvote yourself everytime, yes. That isn't what happens though.

An ideal solution would incentivize downvoting with rewards, but we have yet to come up with a solution that is fair and not exploitable. In the meantime, we believe allowing users to have some downvotes without consuming their voting mana is a reasonable solution. While it does not incentivize curating through downvotes, it removes the direct cost of downvoting, which should make downvoting a more economically viable option."

### Just saying "Downvoting with rewards".... WOW... You should feel bad that you had this thought, I actually encourage you to completely erase your post and apologize to everyone.

### If downvotes are free to do and earn people rewards, that incentivizes people to buy Steem just to downvote others and upvote themselves. What kind of a fucked up system would grow and gain millions of users where people earn from downvoting others rofl... Are you trying to make this crash and burn more than it already is?

"What we propose to do is to create a separate downvote pool that can contain its own mana up to some percentage of the mana that the upvote pool can contain. Downvotes will be taken from the downvote pool first, and then the upvote pool once the downvote pool has been consumed. The downvote pool will follow the same rules as the upvote pool, regenerating over five days and filling instantly and proportionally to new Steem Power and delegations."

### Ah yes, let the people with the most power dictate everything. We see how well that works with people who regularly spam thousands of comments per post and you don't ban them. We see the affects of downvoting already from the most powerful whales on the platform, lets go ahead and give them MORE FREE DOWNVOTING POWER....

The good way to think of this is that a certain number of downvotes are free before you are charged for downvoting. ### So you are saying that you personally would like to see 10% to 25% more downvotes. Why. Theres no reason or logic or math you are presenting on on why this solves X problem with Y solution. Its just you saying some random shit in a post.

"The obvious alternative solution is to have two entirely separate pools for upvotes and downvotes. We believe this is a bad idea because it would allow the reward system to devolve into a zero sum game without consequence. Each account could award and remove an equal number of reward shares to content. If everyone did this, then no content would have any reward shares and would then not get any reward."

### There's always more than one solution. The solution has been proposed many times by people who have been here a long time..... Think back to the linear rewards curve debates.... hmm...

### No it doesn't capture the best of both approaches. It literally just encourages more downvoting via bot armies and whales.
