Utilizar composições defensivas é uma estratégia muito interessante em **[Splinterlands](https://splinterlands.com?ref=underlock)** principalmente em determinadas partidas em que as regras favorecem essas composições, entretanto devemos tomar cuidado para não cometer algumas falhas que podem tornar sua composição inútil, então vamos falar sobre os erros que devemos evitar.

O objetivo principal dessas composições é sobreviver por mais tempo que o oponente, focando em causar dano de maneiras diferentes, seja por habilidades de refletir *(***Return Fire** https://imgur.com/m6ZWYq8.png **Magic Reflect** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_magic-reflect.png **Thorns** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_thorns.png*)* ou pelas regras que causam dano por rodada *(***Earthquake** https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/1/14/Combat-rule_earthquake.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022 **Noxious Fumes** https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/8/80/Combat-rule_noxious-fumes.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022*)*, então para atingir esse objetivo você escolhe unidades com bons status defensivos e habilidades que favoreçam a sobrevivência, além de debuffs para diminuir a ofensividade inimiga.

Entretanto há alguns problemas que você pode encontrar ao utilizar composições assim, principalmente quando estiver em uma partida que não tenha nenhuma das duas regras de combate citadas ou que seja muito difícil prever qual será o tipo de dano da composição inimiga *(https://i.imgur.com/DHYYqYs.png?1 / https://i.imgur.com/lVDQivZ.png / https://i.imgur.com/ZthRUla.png)* para poder escolher unidades com a habilidade certa de refletir.

A situação fica ainda pior se a partida possuir alta mana disponível pois o oponente poderá selecionar suas melhores *(e mais fortes)* cartas, sendo bem difícil lidar com muitas cartas de level alto causando dano.

Em resumo a soma desses três fatores pode prejudicar bastante suas composições defensivas:

- Mana disponível muito alta;
- Nenhuma regra que cause dano contínuo;
- Nenhuma regra que limite as possibilidades ofensivas do oponente;
- Muitos elementos disponíveis.

Tudo isso favorece a escolha de composições mais ativas pois será necessário **acertar perfeitamente o counter** para conseguir vencer com uma composição defensiva.

Vamos analisar essa partida em detalhes para conferir na prática como os fatores que eu citei anteriormente estão presentes e colaboram para que a composição defensiva do oponente não funcione, começando pelas regras.

Além de não haver uma regra que limite as possibilides ofensivas *(por exemplo **Up Close and Personal** https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/3/31/Combat-rule_up-close-personal.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210401145641)* ou que cause dano por rodada *(https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/1/14/Combat-rule_earthquake.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022 https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/8/80/Combat-rule_noxious-fumes.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022)* a mana disponível é muito alta e quase todos os elementos estão liberados para escolher, ou seja **TODOS OS FATORES MENCIONADOS ESTÃO PRESENTES NA PARTIDA**.

Tudo isso significa que eu tinha muita liberdade para escolher qualquer tipo de composição e estratégia, sendo bem difícil prever e counterar isso com uma composição defensiva. Mesmo assim meu adversário tentou fazê-lo, então vamos falar mais sobre a composição que ele montou começando pelas duas últimas cartas.

O **Riftwing** exerce a função de sobreviver por muito tempo *(sendo ótimo nas partidas de **Earthquake** https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/1/14/Combat-rule_earthquake.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022)* e revidar dano com a habilidade **Backfire** https://i.imgur.com/87e6Wrk.png caso o oponente erre seus ataques. Ao ser colocado na última posição faz com que ele só vá ser efetivo contra cartas com **Sneak** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_sneak.png e quando chegar na primeira posição, mas por possuir zero de dano só haverá chances de ganhar através do **Backfire** https://i.imgur.com/87e6Wrk.png, sendo completamente inútil contra unidades mágicas https://i.imgur.com/lVDQivZ.png.

Já o **Dark Ha'on** visa atrair todos os ataques e enrolar o máximo possível, e por estar no level 3 suas duas novas habilidades colaboram muito para isso. Entretanto por estar na penúltima composição ele é incapaz de atacar e por ser uma partida de alta mana disponível as chances das minhas unidades possuírem ataque muito alto e eliminá-lo muito rápido é maior. Sendo assim já são duas unidades que conseguem comprar tempo mas com potencial de dano baixo.

Vamos falar agora sobre as outras cartas. As duas circuladas em vermelho possuem um dano bem mediano *(considerando uma partida de 52 mana)* e além disso uma delas possui **Sneak** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_sneak.png, sendo a única do time que irá focar seu ataque em uma unidade diferente. Se considerarmos que todas as cartas tendem a ser level alto os ataques do **Undead Badger** demorarão muito para eliminar seu alvo, tornando-o praticamente inútil durante todo o combate.

A melhor unidade do oponente é o **Goblin Mech** pois ele consegue ser resistente e causar muito dano, além de controlar o inimigo com seu **Stun** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_stun.png. Como os primeiros hits serão direcionados para o **Dark Ha'on** ele conseguirá sobreviver por tempo suficiente para causar seu dano e isso é muito bom. Para auxiliá-lo o adversário escolheu o **Corrupted Pegasus**, que é um suporte realmente incrível mas que nesse caso não é tão efetivo se considerarmos que o objetivo principal do **Goblin Mech** é ser ofensivo e por não ter nenhuma habilidade de reduzir dano apenas a cura não seria o suficiente para deixá-lo vivo por muito tempo.

Perceba que não há muita coerência na composição como um todo e isso torna ela muito inefetiva de maneira geral. A situação mudaria completamente se estivéssemos em uma partida com **Earthquake** https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/1/14/Combat-rule_earthquake.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022 pois três das suas unidades ignorariam o dano e ainda teriam alta taxa de sobrevivência por causa de suas habilidades.

Temos que tomar cuidado com as estratégias que utilizamos pois apesar dela ser boa isso não significa que ela será boa em todas as ocasiões, então devemos sempre analisar os pontos fortes e fracos das nossas composições para conseguirmos avaliar se ela se encaixará ou não em uma partida. However, there are some problems that you may encounter when using compositions like this, especially when you are in a game that does not have any of the two aforementioned combat rules or that it is very difficult to predict what type of damage the enemy composition will be *(https://i.imgur.com/DHYYqYs.png?1 / https://i.imgur.com/lVDQivZ.png / https://i.imgur.com/ZthRUla.png)* to be able to choose units with the right skill of reflect.

- Very high available mana;
- No rule that causes continuous damage;
- No rules that limit the opponent's offensive possibilities;
- Many elements available.

All this favors the choice of more active compositions as it will be necessary to **perfectly hit the counter** to be able to win with a defensive composition.

Let's analyze this match in detail to check in practice how the factors I mentioned earlier are present and contribute to the opponent's defensive composition not working, starting with the rules.

Besides there is no rule that limits the offensive possibilities *(for example **Up Close and Personal** https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/3/31/Combat-rule_up-close-personal.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210401145641)* or that deals damage per round *(https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/1/14/Combat-rule_earthquake.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022 https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/splinterlands/images/8/80/Combat-rule_noxious-fumes.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20210209072022)* the available mana is very high and almost all elements are free to choose, that is **ALL THE MENTIONED FACTORS ARE PRESENT IN THE MATCH** .

All this means that I had a lot of freedom to choose any type of composition and strategy, and it was very difficult to predict and counter this with a defensive composition. Even so, my opponent tried to do it, so let's talk more about the composition he created starting with the last two cards.

Being placed in the last position makes it only effective against cards with **Sneak** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_sneak.png and when it reaches the first position, but for having zero damage will only be able to win through **Backfire** https://i.imgur.com/87e6Wrk.png, being completely useless against magic units https://i.imgur.com/lVDQivZ.png.

**Dark Ha'on**, on the other hand, aims to attract all attacks and roll as much as possible, and being at level 3 his two new skills collaborate a lot for that. However, because he is in the penultimate composition he is unable to attack and because it is a high mana match available, the chances of my units having very high attack and eliminating him very fast is greater. So there are already two units that can buy time but with low damage potential.

Let's talk now about the other cards. The two circled in red have very average damage *(considering a 52 mana game)* and one of them has **Sneak** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_sneak.png , being the only one on the team that will focus its attack on a different unit. Considering that all cards tend to be high level, the **Undead Badger**'s attacks will take a long time to eliminate his target, making him practically useless during the entire fight.

The opponent's best unit is the **Goblin Mech** as it can be tough and deal a lot of damage, as well as controlling the enemy with its **Stun** https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/website/abilities/small/ability_stun.png. As the first hits will be directed towards the **Dark Ha'on** he will be able to survive long enough to deal his damage and that's very good. To help him, the opponent chose the **Corrupted Pegasus**, which is a really amazing support but in this case it is not so effective considering that the main objective of the **Goblin Mech** is to be offensive and because it doesn't have any ability to reduce damage by healing alone wouldn't be enough to keep him alive for long.

Note that there is not much coherence in the composition as a whole and this makes it very ineffective in general.
