*CAC DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE 📚*
*(THE LIVING WATER)*

DATE: Wednesday, 6th June, 2018

*TOPIC: BEWARE OF HYPOCRITES*

*📖 READ:* Matthew 23:1--7

*MEMORISE: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!  For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. (Matthew 23:27)*

*EXPOSITION:*
Many ministers of God and other church leaders today have become mere professors of the Bible. They adopt sets of liturgies that are manipulated to make worshipers feel good about themselves, but would not bring them closer to God. They allow members to indulge in sin and sinful acts. They do not preach or teach the truth of the Gospel. They are like Pharisees who Jesus described as white tombs that are full of filth and decay, inside. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!  You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on  the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness  (Matthew 23:27--28).

     They focus on their self - will. Their efforts exerted are of no value in worship nor do those who follow their regulations honour God.  These types of ministers are not heaven - minded. They focus on earthly desires and pleasures.  The Spirit of God in you will discern who they are. They are indulging in so many things that are not godly. By their fruits they are known. The smokes of their true person cannot be hidden for long. Run away from them they are dangerous to your spiritual life. They are wells without water (2 Pet 2:17).

     These hypocrites are clearly described by Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3:5. He warned the young Timothy to beware of them and ensure that they do not influence him or others around him. Such people are not just among the ministers alone. There are so many of them among members. There are the people false representing Christianity at home and in public places, such that people misunderstand the importance of being Christian. 

     *Are you the same person you profess to be in church at home and in your workplace? If there is any discrepancy between who you are in church and the society, you are better be called a hypocrite. Don't be another Demas. Repent now, and begin to live a life of Christian integrity. God would always champion your course.*

 *PRAYER POINTS:*
1. Lord, rid me of all legalistic spirit that have been blindfolding me from being Holy Spirit filled. 

2. Lord, help me never to be prey to agents of the devil in the garbs of Christ's ministers. 

3. Lord, help us to redeem the image of the Church among people who have encountered wayward and wicked 'Christians'.
