Tres suspiros al aire son suficientes para el final, en un campo al que nadie se atreve circular, al que las personas atribuyen leyendas urbanas y espíritus, donde todo lo bueno del mundo se pierde en tinieblas y no vuelve jamás. Allí en esa zona tan impía por las palabras de la gente, se encuentra una casa de madera vieja y negra, abandonada por una familia y su misteriosa desaparición.
Aquello fue una hermosa granja, rodeada de extensas hectáreas de maizal, y junto a ella un arroyo que empezaba en un valle de rocas blancas, que decían observadores detallistas que por las noches brillaban como diamantes; un fenómeno inusual que nadie más pudo ver, ni siquiera los propios lugareños.
En aquel sitio abandonado, vivió una agradable familia como la mía o como la de mis amigos. Primero estaba el señor Duncan Hayes, un devoto granjero que amaba sus tierras más que a su esposa, Gizelda Hayes; una mujer muy amable que hablaba alemán, de hecho, era una inmigrante austriaca que vino a este país muy joven con un propósito pero al final lo ha perdido.
Luego estaban sus dos hijos; Thomas, el mayor, tenía catorce años para entonces, y luego estaba Hannah, de seis años, una pequeña niña rubia muy tímida para interactuar con los demás. Yo tenía la edad de Hannah cuando todo ocurrió, no tenía memoria para el momento solo la de mis padres posteriormente, pues a través de ellos y los relatos de la comunidad, pude hacer una construcción de lo que le ocurrió a la familia Hayes.
Puede que ustedes no sean creyentes de lo sobrenatural, pero la explicación que me doy al referirme a esa familia, es a la que yo me amparo, pues, aunque no suene lógico y hasta que no exista una explicación más coherente, seguiré creyendo en la historia que ahora les voy a relatar.
Todo sucedió cuando la pequeña Hannah recibió como regalo de su padre un muñeco con un aspecto bastante singular. Hay personas que aseguran que en realidad la niña lo desenterró del suelo en una zona del maizal, de cualquier forma, el muñeco tenía un aspecto horrible, tenía los ojos saltones y azules, su cabello era rizado y rojo y su cabeza era muy grande. Su piel de madera era tan blanca como el papel y estaba vestido de arlequín.
Y aunque su aspecto daba mucho miedo, Hannah se enamoró al instante de él y lo hizo su mejor amigo, le colocó un nombre: «Toreto», hay quienes aseguran que ese fue el nombre que el muñeco le confirió a la niña. Pasó el tiempo y Hannah y Toreto se volvieron inseparables, iban a todas partes juntos incluso a las visitas en el pueblo. Decían que Hannah tenía una imaginación muy activa, pues aseveraba que Toreto tenía poderes especiales, y que podía hacer que las personas volaran en sus sueños.
Esto no sé si sea verdad, pero me remito a los comentarios que he recabado, la parte fuerte de la historia es lo que sucedió después, cuando los miembros de los Hayes comenzaron a desaparecer. Hannah empezaba a decir cosas horribles a su familia, que según ella, las decía Toreto.
Decía que el muñeco quería que lo acompañaran a un agujero en el campo, el cual nunca se encontró, para poder soñar por siempre. Hannah era muy insistente con este tema, y eso preocupaba a sus padres. Un día dijo exaltada que sino iban con ella se iría sola. Era la primera vez que la niña se comportaba así.
Las desapariciones comenzaron a ocurrir, primero fue Hannah, no hubo rastro de ella. Su familia y amigos la buscaron desesperadamente pero nunca apareció. Su padre recordó lo del agujero en el maizal, así que fue inmediatamente a buscarlo recorriendo todas sus hectáreas y nunca volvió. Solo quedaron Grizelda y Thomas, que por la preocupación salieron a buscar a sus seres queridos, pero ellos tampoco volvieron a aparecer.
Desde entonces, aparecían de la nada carteles con advertencias extrañas en los límites de la propiedad, como: «No suspires al aire tres veces aquí» o «Aquí comienza el fin», la gente ignoraba quien los colocaba allí, solo aparecían como si algo sobrenatural nos alertara. También es extraño que las autoridades y el banco no hayan querido meter sus manos en aquellas hectáreas. El caso fue cerrado y las entidades financieras lo han olvidado. Al quedar la tierra descuidada todo se marchitó, el suelo se volvió oscuro como el cielo que lo cubría. Hay personas que aseguran que aún pueden escuchar voces andar, y una de ellas, la de una niña llamando desesperadamente a su muñeco Toreto.

Three sighs in the air are enough for the end, in a field where nobody dares to go, to which people attribute urban legends and spirits, where everything good in the world is lost in darkness and never returns. There in that area so unholy by the words of the people, is an old and black wooden house, abandoned by a family and its mysterious disappearance.
That was a beautiful farm, surrounded by vast acres of cornfields, and next to it a stream that began in a valley of white rocks, which detailed observers said that at night shone like diamonds; an unusual phenomenon that no one else could see, not even the locals themselves.
In that abandoned place, there lived a nice family like mine or my friends'. First there was Mr. Duncan Hayes, a devoted farmer who loved his land more than his wife, Gizelda Hayes; a very kind woman who spoke German, in fact, she was an Austrian immigrant who came to this country very young with a purpose but in the end has lost it.
Then there were her two children; Thomas, the oldest, was fourteen by then, and then there was Hannah, age six, a little blonde girl who was very shy about interacting with others. I was Hannah's age when it all happened, I had no memory for the time only that of my parents later, for through them and community accounts, I was able to make a construction of what happened to the Hayes family.
You may not be believers of the supernatural, but the explanation that I give myself when referring to that family, is the one that I am protecting myself, because, although it does not sound logical and until there is a more coherent explanation, I will continue believing in the story that I am going to tell you now.
It all happened when little Hannah received as a gift from her father a doll with a quite singular aspect. There are people who claim that the little girl actually dug it out of the ground in a cornfield area, in any case, the doll looked horrible, it had bulging blue eyes, its hair was curly and red and its head was very large. His wooden skin was as white as paper and he was dressed as a harlequin.
And although his appearance was very scary, Hannah instantly fell in love with him and made him her best friend, she gave him a name: "Toreto", some say that this was the name that the doll gave to the girl. Time went by and Hannah and Toreto became inseparable, they went everywhere together even to the visits in town. It was said that Hannah had a very active imagination, as she claimed that Toreto had special powers, and that he could make people fly in their dreams.
I don't know if this is true, but going by the comments I have gathered, the strong part of the story is what happened next, when members of the Hayes began to disappear. Hannah was starting to say horrible things to her family, which she said were said by Toreto.
He would say that the doll wanted them to accompany him to a hole in the field, which was never found, so he could dream forever. Hannah was very insistent on this subject, and that worried her parents. One day she said exalted that if they did not go with her, she would go alone. It was the first time that the girl behaved like that.
Disappearances began to occur, first it was Hannah, there was no trace of her. Her family and friends searched desperately for her but she never appeared. Her father remembered about the hole in the cornfield, so he immediately went to look for it by going through all his acres and never came back. Only Grizelda and Thomas were left, and out of concern they went out to look for their loved ones, but they too never reappeared.
Since then, signs with strange warnings appeared out of nowhere on the boundaries of the property, such as: "Do not sigh in the air three times here" or "Here begins the end", people did not know who put them there, they just appeared as if something supernatural alerted us. It is also strange that the authorities and the bank did not want to get their hands on those hectares. The case was closed and the financial entities have forgotten about it. As the land was left neglected, everything withered away, the soil became as dark as the sky that covered it. There are people who claim that they can still hear voices walking, and one of them, that of a little girl calling desperately to her doll Toreto.
