In the midst of all this drama, the player buys a race car from Lucas Rivera and Jonny Cruz, a local mechanic and retired street racer. Rivera helps the player enter his first Showdown race and becomes his mechanic and mentor for much of the game. The player meets Lucas' younger sister, Ana Rivera, a member of Palm City's underground street racing scene. Ana's street racing team was recently disbanded after a raid by the High Speed ​​Task Force nearly killed one of Ana's friends.

The money is shared, which makes it very tedious to have to improve four cars at the same time to adjust to each of the disciplines. But, in addition, the recommended level for each event is also poorly balanced. You can enter a level 220 race with a level of 240 and still have problems. Especially until you start to understand how the pieces work, something that the game doesn't deign to explain much.

One of the best parts of the game is the vehicle customization.
