## NFT Profile Picture is a thing
As [cryptocurrency](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/cryptocurrency) and [blockchain](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/blockchain) technology continues to grow in utility, developers are creatively designing projects that seeks to infiltrate [web2](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-web-2-0) platforms in a way that will ease the full migration to web3 environment. One of such developments is Generative NFT ([Non-Fungible Tokens](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-non-fungible-token-nft)) or NFT profile pictures which is growing in adoption across leading web2 platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Discord, etc.

NFT Profile Picture is a new [DeFi](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-decentralized-finance-defi) Wallet feature that allows users to use NFTs they create or own as profile pictures on their social media frontends. For example the Twitter NFT profile pictures are a way to show off the NFTs a user owns on Twitter. This developments seek to monetize how people project themselves on social media with a digitally created character.

A social media user with NFT Profile Picture creates or purchases a digitally created character in a supported blockchain, basically Ethereum, and then temporary connects the crypto wallet to his social media account in such a way that allows the user to set up an NFT as profile picture. The digital asset displays in a special hexagon shape that identifies the user as the owner of that NFT.

Latest in the league of NFT Profile Picture is Splinterlands' [Runicore (Runi)](https://www.splintertalk.io/@splinterlands/introducing-the-runicore). Runi is a 100% unique limited-edition promo card that will be added into the [Splinterlands game](https://splinterlands.com/?ref=uyobong), minted on the Ethereum blockchain but utilized in Splinterlands battle on Hive blockchain. The design of Runi is similar to Crypto Punks, Bored Apes, and many other NFT profile picture projects, but with a pioneer multi-chain leverage design.

Upon creation, Splinterlands players will be able to show off their unique Runi as their NFT profile pictures both in the Splinterlands game as well as on other social media apps such as Twitter, Discord, Hive, etc.


## Runi - Splinterlands' first "Generative NFT
Runi as Splinterlands' first "Generative NFT" project, will allow Splinterlands players to mint Runi that will each have a completely unique, random combination of six different visual [attributes](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-card-attributes). This attributes will allow the cards to be fir for use in Splinterlands battles, while ownership of the NFTs will be completely controlled via the Ethereum blockchain. However, Runi NFTs will not be transferred, bought, sold, or rented on the Hive blockchain like other cards and in-game assets.

Runi will be a premier NFT profile picture that has a dual blockchain active interaction. Runi will be minted, traded and rented on the Ethereum blockchain but will be staked/delegated for battle in Splinterlands game on Hive blockchain. This linkage of Runi to Ethereum and OpenSea is a strategic way of exposing Splinterlands game on the radar of the wider NFT community and we believe will bring new players and investors into Splinterlands ecosystem and Hive at large.



## Runi and the new Utility for [VOUCHER](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-vouchers)
Getting whitelisted to reserve Runi ahead of time will cost 100 VOUCHER tokens each. Paying for whitelisting will be possible through the Splinterlands shop starting on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022 at 2 PM ET / 18:00 UTC. This is another wonderful use case for the VOUCHER token.
