VITAMIN B5 (pantothenic acid) is a compound of the composition C9H17O5N. Judging by the defining name of the acid ("everywhere" in Greek), it is widely distributed in nature. In the body is part of the enzymes that catalyze the formation of peptide and ester bonds, that is - it normalizes the processes of synthesis (the formation of a whole from individual parts). So, forming "coenzyme A", necessary for obtaining energy and metabolism of carbohydrates and fatty acids, vitamin B5 promotes the normal synthesis of red blood cells, chemical components of the brain, natural corticosteroids. Helps stimulate the production of antibodies from the immune system. It is destroyed by dry heat, solutions of acids and alkalis used in canning and freezing, and also with such kinds of food processing as refining, grinding, calcining, etc. In general, the deficit of pantothenic acid is unlikely, it can only occur if there are serious stresses and long-term illnesses. Since vitamin B5 is important for the metabolism and absorption of folic acid, an additional intake of it by pregnant women protects from miscarriages and possible defects in the intrauterine development of the child. Symptoms of deficiency: general weakness, decreased pressure, eczema.
