I heard such an opinion that speech appeared as a result of human degradation. Oh, these people can give an explanation to everything, even if they do not know and do not understand it. But we're homo sapiens. Once they invented such a drive, then it is necessary to justify it.
And still, if there was no speech, something has changed in our life. Of course life was different, but this did not affect our development. Communication is needed, but only for survival, but for life there.
