I have a few favorites, depending on a length you are looking for. If you want just a standalone novel I would recommend Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman or Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay. If you want a trilogy I would do Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson or the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. If you want a nice long epic 10+ book series, Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson is a good one if you like things a little more dark.
