He succeeded with his words to return the efreet to the copper vessel. Then the efreet pleaded with the fisherman, but the fisherman did not believe him and started to tell a story. ### # ON THE SECOND NIGHT ***Sheherazade said:*** The efreet said: So I flew into terrible anger, and I said in my soul: "Now I will kill whoever delivers me, but I will grant him the choice of his death!" It was then that you, O fisherman, came to deliver me. And I granted you to choose your kind of death! At these words of the efreet, the fisherman said: “O Allah! what a marvelous thing! It had to be just me who delivered him! O efreet, be gracious to me and Allah will reward you! But if you kill me, Allah will raise someone for you to kill you." Then the efreet said to him: “But if I want to kill you, it is precisely because you delivered me!" And the fisherman said, “O Sheikh of the efreets, is this how you return evil for good! Also, the proverb does not lie! And the fisherman recited verses on this subject: *Do you want to taste the bitterness of things? — Be kind and helpful.* *Yes, I swear it on my life! Scoundrels ignore all gratitude.* *If you want it, try it! And your fate will be that of poor Magir, mother of Amer!* But the efreet said to him, “Enough of abusing words! Know that I absolutely need your death!" Then the fisherman said to himself: “I am only a man, and he is a genie, but Allah has given me a well-founded reason; so I will arrange a combination to lose it, a ploy of my shrewdness. And I'll see if he, in turn, can combine something with his malice and his cunning." So he said to the efreet: “Have you really decided my death?" The efreet replied, “Do not doubt it." Then he said: "By the name of the Highest, which is engraved on the seal of Suleiman, I conjure you to answer my question truthfully!" When the efreet heard the name of the Highest, he was very moved and very struck, and answered: "You can question me and I will answer you with the truth." Then the fisherman said, "How could you be completely contained in this vessel which can barely contain your foot or your hand?" The efreet said, "Are you doubting that, by any chance?" The fisherman replied, "Indeed, I will never believe it unless I see you with my own eyes entering the vessel!" The efreet stirred, shook, and became a smoke again which rose to the firmament, condensed, and began to enter the vase, little by little, until the end. Then the fisherman quickly took the lead lid imprinted with Suleiman's seal and blocked the orifice of the vase with it. Then he hailed the efreet and said, “Hey! estimate and weigh the kind of death you prefer to die, or I will throw you into the sea, and I will build myself a house on the shore, and I will prevent anyone from fishing, saying, Here is an efreet; delivered, he will want to kill his liberator and will enumerate the varieties of death to him to leave him the choice!" When the efreet heard the fisherman's words, he tried to get out, but he could not; and he saw that he was imprisoned, with Suleiman's seal above him. He then understood that the fisherman had locked him in the dungeon against which neither the weakest nor the most powerful among the efreets can prevail! And, realizing that the fisherman was carrying it from the side of the sea, he said: “No! No!" And the fisherman said: “You must! Oh! it's necessary!" Then the efreet began to soften his terms; he submitted and said, “O fisherman, what are you going to do with me?" He said, "Throw you into the sea! For if you have dwelt there for one thousand eight hundred years, I will keep you there until the hour of judgment! For did I not ask you to preserve me so that Allah preserves you? and not kill me so that Allah does not kill you? But you refused my prayer, and you acted wickedly! So Allah has delivered you into my hands. And I have no remorse for betraying you!" Then the efreet said, "Open the vase to me, and I will shower you with blessings!" He answered: “You are lying, oh cursed one! Besides, what is happening between you and me is exactly what happened between the vizier of King Iounane and the doctor Rouiane! » And the efreet said: “But who were the vizier of King Iounane and the doctor Rouiane? And what is this story? » # STORY OF THE VIZIR OF KING IOUNANE AND THE DOCTOR ROUIANE The fisherman says: “Know, O you efreet, that there was, in the antiquity of time and the past of the age and of the moment, in the city of Fars, in the country of the Roumanns, a king named Iounane. He was rich and powerful, a master of armies, great forces, and allies of all kinds of men. But his body was afflicted with leprosy for which the doctors and the scholars had despaired. Neither drugs, pills, nor ointments worked on him, and none of the doctors could find an effective cure for him. Now, one day, a famous old doctor, called Rouiane, came to the city of King Iounane. He was versed in Greek, Persian, Roman, Arabic, and Syrian books; he had studied medicine and astronomy, of which he knew very well the principles and the rules, and the good and bad effects; possessed the virtues of both dry and fat plants and herbs, and their good and bad effects; he had finally studied philosophy and all the medical sciences and other sciences as well. Also, when the doctor entered the city and stayed there for a few days, he learned the story of the king and leprosy that afflicted his body by the will of Allah, and also the absolute failure of the treatments of all the doctors and scientists. At this news, the doctor spent the night very preoccupied. But when he awoke in the morning - and the light of day shone and the sun greeted the world, this magnificent setting of the Very Good - he dressed up in his finest clothes, and entered the palace of King Iounane. ***— At this point in her narration, Scheherazade saw the morning appear and quietly fell silent.*** *** [First Night](https://peakd.com/story/@vcelier/one-thousand-and-one-nights-the-story-of-the-fisherman-with-the-efreet-first-night) [Third Night](https://peakd.com/story/@vcelier/one-thousand-and-one-nights-the-story-of-the-fisherman-with-the-efreet-third-night-the-story-of-the-vizier-of-king-iounane-and)

The conclusion of the story in my interpretation is not to trust anyone! Not always the one who seems to want your good, wants it for you. Exactly like also the idiom says "The wolf changes its hair, but the temper not"! Smart enough the fisherman succeeded in tricking the evil genie to get back into the vase, being trapped for another eternity.

Amazing! In the last episode I literally thought the fisherman was actually going to die but things turned out differently. Based on this episode, the efreet is really cunning and wicked. I'm glad the fisherman noticed this and wasn't moved by the words of the efreet after he had locked the efreet back in the vase. Well, I also love the wisdom and thinking capability of the fisherman. He did a great job by tricking the tricker back into the vase. I'm glad evil was eventually outsmarted. Beautiful one ✨

Karma is always balancing things and the evil genie experienced that on his own. As he wanted the death of the fisherman, he ended up locked back in the vase as he wasn't flexible on the fisherman's destiny. Why would you want to kill somebody that saves you? Well, karma is a b**ch and it got you back!

This is a good story and I like how the fisherman takes control of his destiny :) In the story of the Merchant with the Efreet, the merchant accepted the will of the Efreet and surrendered to him as if he accepted his death. While the story goes differently for the poor Fisherman with the Efreet; the poor man takes control of the situation and cleverly lures the Efreet who was overly confident. Efreet's confidence was his failure, LOL. This story of this fisherman is impressive because he did not show fear from the Efreet, instead he thought of a way to trick the Efreet into returning to his vase to seal it and not get out. The Efreet is also stupid because the fisherman ordered him to go back inside without thinking that he might be sealed again and imprisoned for a long time inside the vase. After all, the fisherman is weak and has no ability to fight the Efreet, so he used his brain to save himself. This is a good lesson that we should learn in life, not all challenges in life require violence to overcome them. Sometimes the use of intelligence is more effective than force. It seems like in Scheherazade's situation, she knows that the King is powerful so no one can stop the King if he wants to kill Scheherazade, but because of her strategy, she was able to convince the King not to kill her.

The way we all know that life has been given to us once and the way it was threatening the fish man that I will kill you and kill you and no one will know so he is very was more afraid. Then an idea came to his mind that I should somehow lock him inside the bottle again and then he said to him that you are so big and how can he fit inside his bottle and I don't believe how he can be locked up here for so long. As soon as he re-entered her, she stopped covering and this saved her life. From the way we saw, the minister's daughter was wise and she had saved her life so far, and from the way we now see that this fishman was also very wise. It is trapped inside this copper vessel. And if the fishman were to listen to him and take him out of the bottle, he would be the first to kill him. The mind that Allah has given to man, if he uses it, can be very successful and can come out of many places as we have seen it come out. Just as there are many examples in front of us in this world many people succeed by using their brain and those who don't can never succeed. The fear of death is much worse as we see first the fish man was afraid that his life would end and then his prudence saved his life and now again. Efreet life is in danger and he is wondering how many years he will have to live in this sea again. The story has become more interesting as there are many stories within a story making it more interesting to read and a lot of fun. The way you see it, the fishman is also telling a new story to him. As we all know that nothing beats experience and this doctor has a lot of experience in his field which is why he spent a night there and found out his story. Thought it would be taken in the morning. Now we have to wait for the next part to see if it will survive the prince or not.

The fisherman and his cunning defeated the spiteful genius Efreet. Lost by his arrogance and desire to make his oath effective, the genius listened to the fisherman to re-enter the vase without realizing that this put him in the same situation that he hated so much. The fisherman covered the lamp and took control of the situation. This story does not teach that even in the worst of situations, the genius wanted to kill the fisherman, if we keep calm and use our intelligence it is possible to find a way out that helps us in our objectives. Let's hope that the genius has also learned from this story and doesn't make the mistake of underestimating others again.

Everytime when in stories someone says I'll let you decide how you want to die and your last wish before death... I always wondered is that person being kindhearted to him or more cruel.. still neutral thoughts on this. Ah that sigh of relief when genie was exposed and Got what he deserved... Truth always came out and fisherman did that smartly. Looking forward to see the next chapter.

__Story with in the Story__ We all appreciated the intelligence of Sheherazade and now I want to appreciate the intelligence of Fisher man who with his intelligence not only saved himself from the coming death but also imprison the Efreet into the vase again. Otherwise Efreet would have killed him, The way he handled the situation with getting panic is splinded and amazing. He knew that he don't have the power to fight with the efreet, he can't kill or defeat him, he can only defeat him with his brain and wisdom. The story is getting interested day by day and Sheherazade is adding new stories to make sure sultan Stays busy in listening her stories and not think to kill her and her sister. As a Muslim, we know that, Hazrat Suleman is the king of all the Genie present in the World, as fisher man is a muslim also, he knew he can by the Help of Allah and his prophet Suleman, he can defeat this Genie and that's why he used the name of Hazrat Suleman. By using the name of Hazrat Suleman, the Genie gets unsettled and tried to do what the Fisherman said it, but as Human are above all the creation, He don't even think that he could had been imprison again if he entered the vase again. After he entered into the vase, the Fisher man in a hurry again closed the vase with the seal from Hazrat Suleman, Now Fisher man have saved his life and now Efreet is again in the Vase. I think now Fisher man can ask for anything he want from the Efreet on the return of prison free life for Efreet.

Intriguing! Another story within a story. Sheherazade was a wise woman. She used this strategy to subtly keep the king's interest alive. And I'm baffled by the swift change of position between the Efreet and the Fisherman! The Efreet initially made threats and due to the Fisherman's cunningness, the Efreet began to beg for his life and freedom. "Open the vase to me, and I will shower you with blessings!" Such lies. The Efreet's behaviour made me understand why Suleiman locked him in the jar with his seal in the first place. The Efreet was very wicked and cared about nothing except himself. It's a good thing the Fisherman did not allow his poverty to dull his senses. The second story of leprous king and knowledgeable doctor Rouiane is something to look forward to in the next chapter. We got only the introduction here. I'm sure the doctor knows how to cure the king and in turn the king will repay the old doctor in a cruel way which drives home the wisdom in these words: >*Do you want to taste the bitterness of things? — Be kind and helpful. Yes, I swear it on my life! Scoundrels ignore all gratitude. If you want it, try it! And your fate will be that of poor Magir, mother of Amer!* But I don't want to reach any conclusions yet. 😅 Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. 😊😊

Hahaha This is quite funny because it portrays the true habit of human beings. Most people tend to be very wicked and pretend to be good when they need help. It is a vety bad habit that most people have inculcated. Remember that the efreet was inside something like a bondage and the fisherman rescued him. What do you think the efreet was supposed to do? If I were the one, I will give thanks to the fisherman. I will give him a gift that he will never forget in his lifetime. People can pretend so much that they will pretend to be something that they are not. The efreet pretended like he was a good person when he was later wrapped up in the bondage by the fisherman. People can be so decisive which is not nice. Well, I love the fact that the fisherman is God fearing. Even though the efreet wanted to kill him, he did not take a revenge. The only thing he did was to lock thr efreet inside the bondage again. Well, I am capable of doing that too. Hahaha Some people may think that the fisherman repaid evil with evil but I do not see any evil act in what the fisherman has done. He tried to save himself and also made the efreet to learn his lesson. I think that is the best punishment that the efreet deserves and he will learn to say thank you to anyone who saved him.

It's now the fisherman's turn to set the pace, I guess the world is really spherical. Karma really played a great role here but it's a tale.... Most times in life, I feel karma doesn't play it's role so effectively. This is really a great piece, my greatest joy remains that the fisherman was able to trap the evil genie back for a thousand years again

Hahaha! "A story within a story and another story within this story" incredible We have a saying here "who try to becomes extra smarter/clever deals twice damage" as it happened in this story with efreet. For example, if I were in the efreet's place, I would be more than happy to think that let's get free for some reason and by which I would have been freed, I would necessarily have enriched him with rewards. But no, efreet felt that now he is completely free and now there is no one to stop him from doing whatever he wants. But we also have another saying on this situation that I will tell you "God's rod is silent" this saying is usually used when someone is wronging someone. It means that when a powerful person is oppressing an oppressed person, it is said to make him fear of God. It is explained to him by saying that you will oppress this poor man, but do not forget that God sees and knows everything and when God hits you, you will not be left anywhere. But if I tell the truth, the intelligence of the fisherman has to be appreciated here, just as he cleverly took a efreet in his words and induced him to return to the vase, it was a wonderful moment of this story. After all this, efreet must have realized that what is the fear of death when he thinks that he is going to sink again into the depths of the sea. But as far as I'm concerned the fisherman will not do this to the efreet because he is looking a very kind hearted and a gentle man, that's why he is telling efreet a terrible story named as "THE VIZIR OF KING IOUNANE AND THE DOCTOR ROUIANE" so that efreet would learn a lesson from this story and swear that he would not harm the fisherman or anybody else by coming out of the vase. Well, that was my assumption, let's see what happens in the story......

It is likely that there are various versions of stories inspired by the fisherman story. In Slovenia, for instance, there is a variation where the fisherman catches a fish that grants him three wishes. The story primarily revolves around the relationship between the fisherman and the fish, which is built on mutual trust. Personally, I must admit that if I ever came across a talking fish, I would undoubtedly become a true believer. Great, it is King Iounane's passage. Here it raises questions about the nature of destiny and the extent to which we can control our lives. Can money and resources bring health and well-being? We will see.
