When I worked on CAATS in Richmond, British Columbia, for Hughes Aircraft, I met some very interesting people. Today, I will talk about an American couple.

## Chris & Kim

Christopher and Kimberley met when they were both working for Hughes Aircraft in [Fullerton](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullerton,_California), California. Chris was born in California, while Kim grew up in [Minot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minot,_North_Dakota), North Dakota.

In 1993, I believe, they got married and were sent by Hughes Aircraft to [Richmond](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond,_British_Columbia), British Columbia, to work on CAATS.

Chris was a member of the architecture team, headed by [Philippe Kruchten](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippe_Kruchten), the French guy who got me the job in Canada.
In fact, Chris and myself were co-authors of two papers published while we were working on CAATS: [DVM: an object-oriented framework for building large distributed Ada systems](https://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=376559) in 1995 and [Code-Data Consistency in Ada](https://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=697433) in 1997.
Chris was originally a software engineer, but he became a software architect and manager, and he was a pretty good one.

Kim was the engineer in charge of the subsystem DIOB (Distributed Objects) that was the most complicated software subsystem in the DVM (Distributed Virtual Machine). We worked together for two years in the "System Services" team that was in charge of the DVM.

In 1996, Kim became pregnant with her first child and stopped working as a software engineer. I was sorry to see her go.

After several years, Chris and Kim returned to California. Chris worked for another company whose name I don't remember. In 2005, traveling with my brother Philippe, I went to visit them. Later, I learned that they moved to the East coast, and unfortunately I lost contact with them. I am not very good at keeping friends and acquaintances.
