 <h1><center>Newlyweds in Tahiti</center></h1>

Nestor, Moana, and her parents flew from Vancouver International Airport early in the morning on June 30<sup>th</sup> to Los Angeles, then from there to Tahiti-Faaa International Airport, where they arrived in the evening after 14 hours of travel.

At the airport, they were greeted by Moana's extended family, from both sides, in traditional Tahitian way, that is mostly with flower necklaces and welcoming words in French, Tahitian and even Chinese.

They were driven to the familial house in Punaauia and went quickly to bed to rest after such a long trip.

The next day, the young couple mostly rested and visited the town. They knew that the next day the family had organized a "Tahitian Wedding", with traditional meals and dances.

During this event, Nestor ate for the first time in his life Tahitian "poisson cru", that is fresh raw tuna and mahi-mahi marinated in lime juice.

The dances were "['ori tahiti](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E2%80%99Ori_tahiti)", that the "Popa'a" (Tahitian for Europeans) calls the "[tamure](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamure)". Everybody was amazed by the way Nestor danced. What they did not know was that he had trained with Moana for a month in preparation for this "Tahitian wedding".

Nestor and Moana spent three weeks in Tahiti. They went to various cultural events, either alone or with some members of Moana's family. 

From time to time during their sojourn, they worked on their laptops for the NeMo Trucking Software company.
When Moana was a child, the Internet in Tahiti was only through satellite, so it was very slow. In 2010, the first submarine fiber optic cable [Honotua](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honotua) was installed. It was followed some 10 years later by a second submarine cable. So, in 2026, connections to the Internet were quite good, even if a little slower than in North America.

On Wednesday, July 21<sup>st</sup>, Nestor and Moana left Tahiti. The whole family went to the airport to say their goodbyes and they promised to come back in 2027.
