Well, Emotions are something which every living being in this world has. These emotions are felt differently, like love, anger, sorrow, happiness etc. These emotions are triggered as per the situations a living being faced with. When something goes wrong we feel sad, depressed or angry and when things go according to our plan we are happy and satisfied. So there are a lot of emotions inside us which we manifest accordingly and react to the same. We feel sad and we react sadly, we feel rage and we react angrily, we feel happiness and we show gratitude. There are around 25-30 different emotions in which the main 4 are Happiness, Sadness, Fear and Anger. Rest are secondary because after they are triggered we again feel one of the 4 main emotions. Example when we get a surprise (One of the secondary emotions) on our birthday we feel happy. If we have a surprise test we fear. If we hear about the sudden death of a friend we get sad and depressed. So basically we experience the main 4 emotions. Now why am I talking about such stuff? What made me talk about emotions? 

Many of you may have eaten a heavily stuffed burrito or a cheese burst pizza. In these food items, the ingredients are overloaded and that's why sometimes we like their taste and sometimes we don't (These are less: Even I am fan of Cheese Burst Pizza). The same amount of Overload of Emotions is something we see in Anime. As there is a practical reason why emotions can be heavily loaded is because of the Animation. This I already discussed in my first article. But again Animation is not the only way to showcase the emotional angle. Character Traits and story sequence are also important factors here which support animation along with Background Score. So we can say that emotion is one of the vital elements in anime and a writer can really take a good amount of liberty to showcase the same.

In "Boku No Hero Academia", When child Midoriya discovers that he doesn't have the quirk to become a hero. He gets burst, he brokes. He gets drowned into the deep sea of sorrow. He feels emptiness. It's the same as when someone comes to know that he could not walk, see or hear or speak for the rest of his life. Now this is an extreme situation but this emotion of sorrow and emptiness can be felt in many such other situations. But still our future hero Deku sees a small light of hope and confronts his mom. Here he eagerly waits for a positive reply from his mom. He holds his sorrow, his regression for a few seconds while waiting for a positive reply but his mom fails to back him up and ultimately exposes his heart to the harsh reality that he doesn't have any quirk and hence he can't become a Hero. Mom also does not feel good. She also outbursts as for any mom in the world first comes the happiness of her child and here she can see that her child cannot make a future which he wants to make. So we see this emotion of regret and sorrow in Midoriya and his mom as well.

It's very difficult to build a certain protagonist with some specific emotions. One such emotion which is very common in protagonists is Kindness or caring personality. Yes, that is the trait or an emotion which is constant in almost 90% of the protagonists we see in any Anime. But in some we can see them crystal clear. One such Anime is "Demon Slayer" in which the main protagonist Tanjiro feels sympathy for his foes. He feels that demons are not bad from their heart but it's a situation that has made them the worst. So he sometimes is in a dilemma when he faces the enemy. He feels pain, regret and sorrow when an enemy dies. That's what is beautifully presented by the writer. Because this kindness or sympathy is shown even after his whole family is slaughtered by the Demons. We can't even imagine the pain which he feels after he comes home from the job and finds out that his entire family is slaughtered by demons. He has suffered a tragedy which we cannot even think of. And still he shows his kindness and says to the demon he just killed,"May your soul rest in peace." Ohh My God. What a beautiful portrayal.

One such portrayal we see in "Dragon Ball Z" as well. Though this was not as intense as in "Demon Slayer" but still worth mentioning. That's when Goku praises and pays respect to SuperVillain Buu. He gives quite a good pep talk with an Adios and conveys that he will be waiting for Buu to return as a good person. In the very same fight, Vegeta, who is a Rival to Goku, which I covered in detail in my last article, pays his respect to Goku and finally admits Goku is Stronger than himself. The best part in this whole fight sequence is that the whole universe including the dead friends, mentors and even foes are watching this legendary fight of Goku and Vegeta vs Buu. So not only the characters but also the audience gets quite emotional at some point of time and are eagerly waiting for a happy ending. At the end all the universe stands with Goku and finally after the Adios he ends the most powerful creature in their universe, the Buu. 

So there are a lot of examples of how emotions play a vital role in anime. Some scenes in particular anime really take us to the edge of the seat. As said earlier an emotion is an ingredient to overload.

Similar overload of emotions and feelings can be seen in the fight of All Might vs All for One in "Boku No Hero Academia". This fight itself was extravagant for the audience and the way the writers have portrayed it is quite astonishing. In the whole Fight, they tease the weakness, the fear and the fall of All Might. Due to his injury All Might is not as strong as he used to be. Hence there is a constant feeling we the audience get that this is All Might's end. Even they have showcased this fear in the audience of the anime as well. All other heroes, media and public in the anime feel the same way. So this fight has a strong grip which holds us till the end. There are some moments in this fight which makes us jump on our seats. The Last United States of Smash and a little flashback is the right spice to enhance the emotional taste. But the ultimate emotional twist is that it's the end of All Might but not Toshinori. Yeah the Hero ends and the human remains.

What makes it more intriguing is the human who points towards the camera and says," Its your turn". Here the writer has really done a great job of portraying double emotions playing with the audience. First is Audience in the Anime, normal people/public feels relief and safe as they think the above dialogue is to the villains roaming free in the country. According to them All Might has sent the warning to villains and hence they are happy and relieved to know that the country is in safe hands even if All Might's career has ended. But in the whole of this audience in the Anime, only two people knew that this message was not for the villains but for the successor of All Might, Deku- Izuku Midoriya. Yes you read it right. It was for Midoriya to train hard, to take efforts, to be strong and be ready to face the dangers so that he could be the one to save the country, to save the people and to save mankind. This message was understood by Midoriya himself and his rival friend Bakugo. But this whole fight has a lot of emotional angle to it and it's worth a watch.

Revenge is a terrific emotion and it changes a character, the story, the set up a lot. Normally the feeling of revenge is triggered when someone does injustice to us or our beloved ones. The later part seems more intense.

In many animes, Protagonist is on a journey of revenge. And the reason is the death of his beloved one.  In "Dragon Ball Z" Goku's Super Saiyan transformation was only due to the rage he felt when Frieza killed Krillin. That rage, that anger turned him into one of the powerful forms of Saiyan, Super Saiyan. So here an emotion helped the protagonist to elevate, to emerge, to evolve. Another such evolution can be seen in "Hunter X Hunter" where Gon transforms in the form called Adult Form. That is again the powerful form in the anime. This transformation was due to the thirst for revenge for the death of Kite. Neferpitou, a cat humanoid, Chimera Ant was responsible for the death of Kite. This fight is one sided but still amazing to watch. In both the above examples, Emotions play an important role. 

So in conclusion, Emotions are the key to success in Anime. My recommendations for emotion packed Animes are One Piece, Code Geass, Naruto and even Attack on Titan  because these are the most emotion packed Animes in recent years.
