My shipwatching day began fairly early when I noticed the Samuel Risley (Canadian Coast Guard) escorting Algonova through Detroit. Unfortunately, just as the two ships were coming into view of the camera, they had some sort of lag that ruined any chance of pictures there.

Fortunately, by the time they crossed a dangerously-icy Lake St. Clair, we had much better camera coverage - for a time.

Katmai Bay was ready to go and take over from Samuel Risley.

This is such a pretty ship. One of the smaller Coast Guard Cutters, but still a reliable icebreaker. Much of the St. Clair is clear now, but from Algonac across Lake St. Clair, it's still very built up and dangerous, so these icebreakers are still very much needed.

This next one has to be my favorite-ever lens flare moment with that rainbow splotch above the Katmai Bay.

As you can see, plenty of ice remaining down here. Both in large floating sections and smaller bits floating down the river - that's ice there, not foam or whitewater.

At one point today, the Marine City camera operator caught sight of some bald eagles standing on one of these larger chunks of ice floating down the river. Alas, they never got any close-ups or I would have included one or two here!

But first, Samuel Risley came through, but she turned around and headed downbound again as soon as Algonova was through the bulk of the ice - I never saw her at Marine City.

Algonova (operated by Algoma Corporation) passes by the Marine City camera a short time later.

Then, about two hours later, she's arrived at Sarnia, Ontario, (as captured on Boatnerd's camera.)

Then, this little guy turns up - almost looks like a toy in the water after watching the big guys. This is Pride - and she's currently operated by Willy's of Southampton, Ontario. Read about her [here](https://gltugs.wordpress.com/pride/).

I presume there's still someone at the wheel when this guy steps out and greets the camera like anyone does when they know they're being filmed...
