Mittlerweile ist ein großer Hype auf der Bitcoin Blockchain um NFTs entstanden. Gleich mehrere CryptoPunks Projekte sind auf Bitcoin an den Start gegangen.

Die Ironie der Geschichte ist, dass die ersten NFTs auf der Bitcoin Blockchain geminted worden sind, Ethereum sich aber später besser für das Aufbewahren von Tokens geeignet hat.

Vor Kurzem gibt es aber eine neue Entwicklung bei Bitcoin. NFTs direkt auf der Bitcoin Blockchain basierend auf dem Ordinals-Protokoll, das sich auf eine smarte Weise das SegWit und Taproot-Upgrade zunutze macht.

Mit Taproot ist es möglich, Smart Contract Plattformen auf Bitcoin zu bauen.

Anders als Ethereum NFTs kann die Bild-Information (jpgs) von Kryptokunstwerken auch direkt auf der Bitcoin Blockchain als Witness-Daten gespeichert werden, nicht nur der Hash sondern das ganze Bild, was zu vollen Blöcken und für Kontroversen unter Bitcoin-Maximalisten geführt hat, die Bitcoin hauptsächlich als Zahlungssystem sehen.

NFTs und DeFi auf Bitcoin könnte dazu führen, dass die Kapazität der Blöcke wieder einmal gesprengt wird und die Frage ist, ob NFTs wirklich auf der Layer 1 von Bitcoin so viel Sinn machen. Außer bei sehr hochpreisigen NFTs.

Andererseits begrüße ich die neue Funktionalität von Bitcoin, die auch wieder neue DApps ermöglichen und in Zukunft für mehr Transaktions-Gebühren für die Miner sorgen wird, was langfristig wichtig wegen der schrumpfenden Mining-Rewards ist.

Und das ist erst der Anfang. Stellt euch vor, man könnte in Zukunft mit dem Lightning Network nicht nur Satoshis, sondern auch Tokens und NFTs transferieren. Semi-Custodial. Dann wäre plötzlich auch ein Splinterlands-ähnliches Game auch auf Bitcoin möglich und sinnvoll umzusetzen.

Das ist eine ziemlich spannende Entwicklung. Noch fehlt es aber an der notwendigen Infrastruktur, ein MetaMask und OpenSea für Bitcoin sozusagen, aber das wird bald kommen, denk ich.

Was sagt ihr zur neusten Entwicklung, NFTs direkt auf der Bitcoin Blockchain zu speichern, bei Kryptokunstwerken sogar die Bildinformation, nicht nur der Hash? Overkill oder dope?

In the meantime, a lot of hype has arisen on the Bitcoin blockchain around NFTs. Several CryptoPunks projects have been launched on Bitcoin.

The irony of the story is that the first NFTs were mined on the Bitcoin Blockchain, but Ethereum later proved more suitable for storing tokens.

Recently, however, there is a new development on Bitcoin. NFTs directly on the Bitcoin Blockchain based on the Ordinals protocol, which takes advantage of the SegWit and Taproot upgrade in a smart way.

With Taproot, it is possible to build smart contract platforms on Bitcoin.

Unlike Ethereum NFTs, the image information (jpgs) of crypto artworks can also be stored directly on the Bitcoin blockchain as witness data, not just the hash but the whole image, which has led to full blocks and for controversy among Bitcoin maximalists who see Bitcoin mainly as a payment system.

NFTs and DeFi on Bitcoin could lead to the capacity of blocks being blown once again, and the question is whether NFTs really make that much sense on Bitcoin's Layer 1. Except for very high-priced NFTs.

On the other hand, I welcome Bitcoin's new functionality, which will also enable new DApps again and provide more transaction fees for miners in the future, which is important in the long run because of shrinking mining rewards.

And this is just the beginning. Imagine being able to transfer not only Satoshis, but tokens and NFTs in the future with the Lightning Network. Semi-custodial. Then suddenly a Splinterlands-like game would also be possible and reasonable to implement on Bitcoin.

That is a pretty exciting development. But the necessary infrastructure is still missing, a MetaMask and OpenSea for Bitcoin, so to speak, but that will come soon, I think.
