How costly is it to use a European credit card in UK? This is how much I paid to exchange Euros to Pounds.

Wie hoch sind die Gebühren, wenn man mit einer EU-Kreditkarte (mit einem Euro-Konto) in UK (London) in Pfund bezahlt?

Erstaunlich hoch. Das hängt natürlich von den Konditionen der Kreditkarte ab, in meinem Fall Mastercard von CardComplete, beträgt die Wechselkurs-Gebühr 1.65%. Das Problem ist aber, dass man auch einen schlechteren Kurs bekommt.

Der Forex-Devisenkurs war am Wochenende ungefähr bei 1.20 GBP / EUR, für Kreditkarten-Transatkionen ist aber ein Kurs von 1.22 zur Anwendung gekommen.

Insgesamt mit der 1.65% Gebühr betrug der effektive Wechselkurs daher 1.24. Das ist schon heftig und entspricht einer effektiven Gebühr von ungefähr 3.3%. Auf jede Transaktion.

Ist zwar immer noch viel besser als Bargeld vor Ort zu wechseln und mit Bargeld zu bezahlen, aber wirklich günstig ist es nicht.

How high are the fees with an EU credit card (with a euro account) in the UK (London)?

Surprisingly high. It depends of course on the conditions of the credit card, in my case Mastercard from CardComplete, the exchange rate fee is 1.65%. But the problem is that you also get a worse exchange rate in the first place.

The forex exchange rate at the weekend was around 1.20 GBP / EUR, but a rate of 1.22 was used for credit card transactions.

In total, with the 1.65% fee, the effective exchange rate was therefore 1.24. That's pretty hefty and corresponds to an effective fee of around 3.3%. On every transaction.

It's still much better than changing cash locally and paying with cash though, but it's not really cheap either.

das hört sich ganz gut an :) bei meiner Karte gibt es noch eine Reiseversicherung, vlt ist es deswegen auch teurer, im Endeffekt müssen das die Kartenfirmen mit Gebühren wieder alles einnehmen.
