What does von der Leyen mean with turning private savings into much needed investment? Red alert for private savings?
Von der Leyen hat einen umstrittenen Tweet gepostet, wo es eigentlich um die "Savings & Investments Union" geht. Ein Projekt den Kapitalmarkt der EU für Investitionen zu attraktiveren. Ein bekanntes Problem der EU. Es fehlt an Risikokapital und Risikobereitschaft und auch das regulatorische Umfeld ist für Startups und IT-Firmen nicht so unternehmerfreundlich wie in anderen Ländern. Alles bekannte Probleme.

Aber der Tweet hat auf Social Media für Wirbel gesorgt, da er mehrdeutig verstanden werden kann. Man kann den Tweet nämlich auch im Kontext der angekündigten Aufrüstung der EU verstehen (ReArm Europe). Die EU und allen voran Deutschland planen ein gewaltiges Budgetdefizit von insgesamt 800-1000 Milliarden für die militärische Aufrüstung aufzunehmen.

Alles Schulden finanziert, ohne einen Cent einzusparen oder die bereits gewaltigen Militärbudgets der EU effizienter zu gestalten.

Die EU hat zusammen bereits eines der größten Militärbudgets der Welt. Dazu kommen die zusätzlichen Ausgaben für den Ukraine-Krieg. Und jetzt sollen noch einmal Tausend Milliarden Schulden für die Aufrüstung gemacht werden.

Die Befürchtung ist, dass diese schulden-basierten "Investitionen" die privaten Ersparnisse (und Löhne) der Bürger entwerten werden. Ähnlich wie das zeitverzögert mit den Corona-Lockdowns und Corona-Subventionen geschehen ist.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Wie versteht ihr den Tweet von von der Leyen? Ist der Tweet nur ungeschickt formuliert oder ist die Angst gerechtfertigt?

Von der Leyen has posted a controversial tweet, which is actually about the “Savings & Investments Union”. A project to make the EU capital market more attractive for investments. A well-known problem of the EU. There is a lack of venture capital and willingness to take risks, and the regulatory environment is not as business-friendly for start-ups and IT companies as in other countries. All well-known problems.

But the tweet has caused a stir on social media, as it can be interpreted ambiguously. The tweet can also be understood in the context of the announced rearmament of the EU (ReArm Europe). The EU, and Germany in particular, are planning to run a huge budget deficit totaling 800-1000 billion for military rearmament.

All debt financed without saving a cent or making the EU's already huge military budgets more efficient.

Together, the EU already has one of the largest military budgets in the world. Then there is the additional expenditure for the war in Ukraine. And now another thousand billion in debt is to be incurred for additional rearmament.

The fear is that these debt-based “investments” will devalue the private savings (and wages) of all European citizens. Similar to what happened with a time lag with the corona lockdowns and corona subsidies.

Ob das eine "Zwangskriegsanleihe" für alle wird, bleibt abzuwarten. Das wäre sicher extrem unpopulär beim zukünftigen Wähler.
Aber auch wenn nicht sind die neuen Schulden sich nicht förderlich für den Euro. Obwohl, 500 Mrd in 10 Jahren ist auch nocht soo viel, verglichen mit den USA zB.- die geben jedes Jahr mehr fürs Militär aus, bei einer Bevölkerung die nur 4x so groß ist wie Deutschland.
Mal sehen... wer klug ist weis ja wie man sich verbereiten kann.

I think it's a legitimate fear, though I think there's also a lot of alarmism of the "they'll take all your stuff" kind that's been circulating for years. For me, it just feeds more into existing skepticism and mistrust of centralized banking. 

However, there's the first part of the tweet that no one seems to take into account. Is she insane? What "everything" does EU have to take any kind of lead, or even enjoy a moderate advantage in the face of Russia and US? They keep pretending we're equal players at the table (our leaders, I mean), and that seems a very dangerous notion to bandy around to the masses, and an insane one to actually hold going forward politically. 

What does the future look like? A Europe going it alone, robbing its people to fund a perpetual war (inviting internal insurgency) doesn't take a historian to figure out as no bueno.
