Warum FPV-Drohnen-Steuerung gewöhnungsbedürftig für Gamer ist:

Xbox/PlayStation-Controller und praktisch alle Gamepads haben die Haupt-Bewegungsteuerung auf dem linken Stick.

FPV-Drohnen hingegen auf dem rechten Stick. Pitch und Roll bzw. Move Forward / Backward und Move Left / Right bei Smartdrohnen.

Das ist am Anfang extrem verwirrend, vor allem für Gamer.

Mit dem linken Stick wird hingegen der Schub und Yaw (was so ähnlich wie ein horizontaler Kameraschwenk ist) gesteuert.

Bei Gamepads steuert man mit dem rechten Stick hingegen die Kamera.

Bei Drohnen ist es im Prinzip genau anders herum.

Zumindest ist das selbst bei Smartdrohnen die Standardeinstellung (Mode 2). Bei Smartdrohnen kann man das Layout normalerweise anpassen.

Warum das so ist, hat historische Gründe. Erstens werden Pitch und Roll auch in echten Kampfflugzeugen und Helikoptern mit einem Joystick mit der rechten Hand gesteuert.

Das aktuelle Drohnen-Stick-Layout hat man von ferngesteuerten Helikoptern übernommen und dann nicht mehr weiterentwickelt.

Ein weiterer Grund ist auch, dass man als Rechtshänder mehr Gefühl/Präzision mit dem rechten Stick hat. Deswegen das derzeitige Layout.

PC-Gamer haben ursprünglich mit der rechten Hand (als Rechtshänder) die Maus (Kamera und Aim) gesteuert, was präzisere Bewegungen erfordert als die digitale Steuerung der Fortbewegung mit ASDW auf der Tastatur.

Aber auch Arcade-Games hatten den Joystick für die Bewegungsteuerung links und die Buttons rechts gehabt, was, wenn man darüber nachdenkt, für Rechtshänder eine seltsame Entwicklung war. Historische Kuriosität.

Jedenfalls haben sich jetzt drei Milliarden Gamer an die aktuelle Steuerung mit links (Bewegung) und Kamera rechts (mit dem rechten Stick oder Maus) gewöhnt.

Bei Drohnen ist es aber wieder genau anders herum, was für zusätzliche Verwirrung sorgt. Man kann das Layout bei Smartdrohnen zwar umstellen, aber denke, dass die Stick-Steuerung nicht unbedingt optimal für moderne Drohnen ist und es einen neuen VR-ähnlichen Ansatz bräuchte. Drohnen sollten generell Gamer-freundlicher steuerbar sein.

Why FPV drone controllers are confusing for gamers:

Xbox/PlayStation controllers and virtually all gamepads have the main directional movement control (locomotion) on the left stick.

FPV drones, on the other hand, have it on the right stick. Pitch and roll or move forward/backward and move left/right on smart drones.

This is extremely confusing at first, especially for gamers.

The left stick, on the other hand, controls thrust and yaw (which is similar to a horizontal camera pan).

With game controllers, on the other hand, the right stick controls the camera.

With drones, it's basically the other way around.

At least that's the default setting (Mode 2) even for smart drones. With smart drones, you can usually customize the layout.

There are historical reasons for this. First, in real fighter jets and helicopters pitch and roll are also controlled using the right hand with a joystick.

The current drone stick layout was adopted from remote-controlled helicopters and has not been changed or updated since then.

Another reason is that right-handed people have more feeling/precision with the right stick. That is why the current layout is used.

PC gamers originally controlled the mouse (camera and aim) with their right hand (as right-handed), which requires more precise movements than the digital control of movement with ASDW on the keyboard.

Arcade games also had the joystick for the directional control on the left and the buttons on the right, which, when you think about it, was a strange development for right-handed people. Historical curiosity.

In any case, three billion gamers have now got used to the current control layout of gamepads with movement on the left and camera on the right (using the right stick or mouse).

With drones, however, it's basically the opposite, which causes additional confusion. You can change the layout on smart drones, but I think that stick control is not necessarily optimal for modern drones and that a new VR-like approach is needed. Drones should be more gamer-friendly to control in the first place.
