Looking At Numbers: How Things Are Going Under The New Discounted Account Creation Process (5 Day Mini-Investigation)

__After claiming my second STEEM account I continued to monitor the price of account claiming. I made a post [investigating these RC](https://steemit.com/steem/@vimukthi/investigating-the-cost-of-creating-accounts-on-steem) costs a week ago and for the last 5 days I've been monitoring how the prices fluctuate mainly because of what I saw 5 days ago.__

__That's about a 98% increase. So I kept tracking as the costs went up.__

__That's the highest I could catch. Then it went lower.__

__I didn't notice a cost spike in things such as comments and votes. So I assume it was because a lot of accounts were being created causing a price surge. Looking at the statistics provided by @penguinpablo I'd say this is exactly what was going on.__

__It was around October 11th I noticed the RC costs at its peak.__

# The Required Stake
__People with nothing at stake taking decisions lead to disasters. If you want a real world example, try politicians and their decisions. A person with 2500 SP used to be able to claim an account every 5 days. Currently you are required to have about 4500 SP and at at its peak only those with about 6500 SP could claim free accounts via burning RC. This is still cheaper than a @pivx masternode which require 10,000 PIV about 11000 USD or Dash masternode that cost 158000 USD at the moment.__

And all of that when Google+ announced to shut down. In 10 month. But users have started to look to migrate immediately:

But then again, Why would a person with 2500 SP want to able to claim an account every 5 days if that person isn't a SPAMer?

The average users need one maybe two accounts (one real name one anonymous) — If you need more then two I have no pity. Pay for the any further account.
