Another brief Update on my Dino Writing - Am I a Writer or a Sculptor?

##### A comment by a fellow creative, @beautifulwreck , with whom I connected, today, gave me food for thoughts.

This is what she said:

> A fellow writer, how great life can be! I can relate to this, perfectionism can get in the way sometimes. I only write when I'm ready to edit at the same time, if that makes sense haha if you need help with anything on that matter, I'm totally up for it!

The lovely response of hers, as shared above, was a reply to this comment of mine, where I spoke about the 'beauty in imperfection':

In fact, that is probably the reason why I struggle to finish my first to be published book. That and the fact that I have always been more interested in the process than in the result/ end product.

Let's be honest...

I seem to be always editing my book, instead of writing: cutting out little parts, adding others, correcting typos, improving readibility and so on and so forth.

Now this might sound logical ( to you ), as I'm in literally in the editing phase - as we speak - but I tend to do this too, when I'm doing the actual 'writing'.

In other words: my writing is often more like rewriting.

###### Perhaps I'm more of a sculptor than a writer.

Sometimes I wonder if these are just the traits of a perfectionist, a nitpicker, a grammar Nazi or that this is just an everday thing for most writers around the globe.

So if you're a writer yourself, please enlighten me? Am I just weird or is this totally normal?

Today was that kind of day. I spent a little bit of time editing/ rewriting / hammering andchiseling away at my *Hypersensitvosaurus and Cold Turkey* story.

Sooner or later, I will reach the day where there's no more sculpting to be done. The day when the beautiful finished piece hidden underneath is laid bare and needs no more digging.

Probably that isn't exactly how things go, but I will definitely reach a point where enough is enough and it's time to label this as finished. Time to get this out into the world and move on to book # 2.

P.S. I just realize that, back in the days when I was a filmmaker, the editing process always took up way more time than the actual filming. I guess it's far from unusual to go about it this way :<)

Couldn't have said it better. Although we have to be patient or we end up with no clay/stone/words haha it has happened to me, and that eventually leads me to quit writing completely for a few months, or even years. 

This time I'm being extremely patient with my ideas. I keep a notepad and write whatever, whenever it pops up in there. Then, I take time to edit, later, and/or continue developing the idea. It has helped drive my insane perfectionism into ease haha

I'm growing curious by the minute, looking forward to admiring that sculpture/book of yours!

I get that feeling. For your information, I started on what led to this book, in November 2019 ( shortly after, what I like to call "The Thing" changed the world ). I have asked myself, several times, if there was a purpose in writing a / this book. My book changed multiple times and transmorphed in what it is now.

That sure helps :<) I have a bunch of notepads and I sketch, draw and paint dinos whenever I feel the need. Just writng and no visual expression isn't enough for me. I have been combining the drawn and the written since I was able to write ;<)

I love the writing part, but if it's more than a few pages the editing can be very daunting. The problem is that everything needs trimming usually by 50% or the story will be way too wordy. 

And for those times that I just posted it: now every time I see it in my feed, I get a shameful feeling.

It is more than a few pages. Then again, the original never released novel that transmorphed into this was 50k words and as it was written in a forced way ( during NaNoWriMo 2019 ), it felt uneditable. Compared to that, this should be doable.

I feel I am back in the year 2010, where I spent months editing a couple of hours of video footage in a 12 minutes short film. The difference being that this isn't a movie ;<)

No need to feel ashamed of your past. It's proof that you actually grow.

Last year, I was blinded due to too much pressure in my head, so I wasn't able to use the computer. 

Do you ever write 50 word stories? 

Repeatedly writing in that fashion helped me so much, because my stories used to be way to wordy and a 50 word story is like 99% editing lol

Have you ever thought abought hosting a 50 word story contest? 

If you did I would be all over it, I love writing them, but my vision just isn't good enough to read them in a timely fashion.

I am an experience camper. Went camping with my family for about a month, every Summer holiday, for about 20 years in a row.

Sounds about normal to me.  I have the hot phase where I will just write, and then when I come back to it I'll jump between just writing and editing the crap out of whatever was there previously.

The hardcore editing will come after I'm done, but nothing is safe.
