One architect designed the entire block.  A surprising amount of bureaucracy is involved with whole block photography.

The first issue we tried to address was to get temporary control over the parking situation.  Big trucks can make a mess of a exterior commercial photo shoot pretty quickly.  Naturally, the city of Eureka didn't want to help for free and would cordon off the parking lane for $100 per parking spot per day.  Since the bid on the job was actually lower than their suggested fee, we needed to try something else.

The city's suggestion was to do it Sunday night because there would likely be no one around.  However, we needed the lights on upstairs at the bank, and of course, there was no one scheduled to be in the building on Sunday night.

At the Well Fargo we explained what we were trying to do.  Mary at the front desk was about the sweetest lady I've ever met in my life.  Honestly, their chosen solution was to hire us to shoot interiors and head shots, then in exchange for Mary showing up on Sunday night, we would take $100 off their order.

I think its important to start with these kind of ridiculous images.  It breaks ice, makes people worry less about the fact they're in a high def photo despite being over the age of 25.  Americans, and especially American men (honest), are so concerned about their appearance in a photograph.  Women seem to address the situation with make up and surgery, but guys just seem to hide and run.  By trying to get everyone to do something ludicrous, the smiles later seem so much more natural.

The upstairs lights are all on motion detectors.  Mary brought her dog and while we were shooting, the dog kept the light on in the conference room (top right).

It wasn't until after we started processing the photos that we realized the light in the storage room had been skipped.  Enter our friend Kelly (from the computer gaming industry) to create a light in the window.  In the dark room that was literally impossible.  Clearly that is the most significant part of digital to photography, the ability to make things actually appear.  With film that is a do - over.  With digital, its an email to a friend and wait 20 minutes.

The suite above the Starbucks was owned by the same people that own the collection agency across the street.  Which to me just says lawyers and insurance issues, and sure enough, they were not going to be able to help us with interior lights on the Sunday night scheduled because they had a tenant staying there for that weekend so it was all out of the question.

We noticed a guy come down the stairs and asked if he was staying in the suite.  He was, and was genuinely excited to hear about our project, was an artist himself (dance instructor) and would do anything he could, including let us shoot interiors of the suite as we desired.  Knowing the architect didn't do the interior design, and the building owners were actually lawyers trying to squeeze blood from turnips, we didn't bother.  Sure enough, the lawyers saw our exterior photos of their building and didn't purchase their own copy of anything.  At least the tenant was a beautiful soul, helping, loving and that half hour that we spoke together was a great time of camaraderie understanding and fraternity.  I'm sure that guy is doing fine.  If steemit can reconnect me with people like him, I'm all for it.

The restaurant wanted good photography, they really did.  However, the owner's niece wants to be a photographer so they have to let her do it.  And although it wasn't done, and she didn't have any pro gear, they weren't ready to buy.

One guy who needed to park at the restaurant didn't really want to move his car.  The three other people who pulled up were happy to help, but one of the four had no concern for our project.  He was getting dinner and wouldn't be that long.  I'm pretty sure that is him photographed.  He may have been from San Fransisco and sufficiently entitled.  I didn't ask.

I thought the image below was a pretty good montage of the whole project but no one else really liked the formatting.  It was the first image of this post that almost everyone fawned over.  Wells Fargo was pretty happy with their package too.  We've tried selling similar packages since, but for whatever reason it just worked out so well there.  I think it was probably because the Manager Jim is just a wonderful guy who attracted and retained a group of wonderful people.  Its like there are always a couple people that restore my faith in humanity.
