You can hang around as much as you want but it won't help you.

The leader of the beetles was furious and it showed. After billions of years of survival, they had only evolved minimally. The only extra they had was the ability to hang on tough threads that were not like spiders they had to produce but appeared automatically.

The man, a human being no less, had appeared overnight to make demands. Where did he get the nerve?

 It is in his DNA to rule even though he preaches togetherness and coexistence, remarked an elderly beetle. Look how he is dressed we better teach that piece of vermin a lesson, his kind has ruined our lives.

At the cliff the encounter with the intruder took place. He looked a bit different than billions of years ago and seemed to be alone, with no partner, no children, no peers to lend him a hand. 

What do you want this time, human, asked the leader who had little desire to engage in conversation. It was clear how things stood. The group wanted to get rid of the unwelcome guest who would try to force the bugs into slavery which wasn't going to happen.

The beetles grumbled, some buzzed and others rubbed their feet in irritation. All that chatter would come to nothing and they had long since decided how to deal with the intruder.

Too bad the dung fly doesn't exist anymore whispered the ladybug.

The cockchafer took a run and pushed the talker off the reef after which the other beetles went on the attack.

It won't take long, my good man, hissed the leader, you should know that it's not the cat but the beetle that always lands on its feet, please spare me your prayers and swallow those words. Save me, isn't appropriate after all those ages you tried to destroy us.
