The promise
**By 1904, Magnus had seen more history than a person could put in a book.**
Granny sounded proud of her husband who had never returned  after the last time he had used his time machine. I loved to listen to the stories about Magnus' travels. Instead of photos she showed me the collection of items he had brought her. Each one of them came with a story and she had remembered each one of them. The wrinkled lady in front of me seemed to have a great memory. I wondered if she had never felt the need to figure out what had happened to him. Did he ran out of her, abandoned her because he found a better life elsewhere? I continued combing her silver White hair and wondered how old she was and when and how exactly they met.
"There you are love," I said and handed her a handmirror to have a look at herself. She smiled at herself leaned back and closed her eyes.

**Having lost his life, he entered the new one with a sweet disposition.**
"It is as it is," he mumbled and decided to make the best out of the past that all of a sudden became his present. The future wasn't lost yet although he couldn't travel back. The time machine was broke and there was a small chance he found someone who could help repair it. It was the downside of his world. Too futuristic and the past he ended up in wasn't that far yet. For a moment het thought of the lovely girl he had left behind. She never felt like joining him but eagerly waited for his return. His new stories about his adventures was what she was waiting for. She never showed any anger, envy or fear. She completely trusted him no matter where he went.
"If I can I go back to her."
As long as he lived, could remember the year and date there was a way back.
He knocked on the farm door  and stepped inside the kitchen diner. A chubby woman was stirring in a pot which hung above the fireplace.
"Mona?"
He did a step forward. She turned around and in complete amazement she looked at the man behind him.
"Magnus you are back!"

Life had been good to him. He had done what he had liked most. Travelling back or forward in time was his passion and what he had done from a young age on. The time machine he had hidden in the shed of the farm. As years passed by he had tried to repair it but all attempts turned out to be without result. He hadn't forgotten Hur but didn't need how to reach her, find his way back home. Just like him she would have lost her youth and belonged to the elderly by now. He closed his eyes and thought about the promise he had made. He would always return back home. Was she still waiting for him. A silent tear fell over his left cheek and it was carefully wiped off by a soft hand.
"There's someone waiting for you," a soft voice said,  open your eyes so you can see by yourself.
He heard her footsteps, how she opened the window and felt the breeze coming inside. Slowly he opened his eyes and there it was **a bird at the window**. He knew it was her and she had not only waited for him but also spread her wings to find him.
"You made it", he said while the tiny bird hipped on the windowsill and flew over to his bed and landed on his chest. "I'm so happy you found me, I'm so sorry I couldn't keep my promise.
He felt tired closed his eyes and heard how she left the room and closed the door behind her. A soft breeze touched him and he saw how the young girl he had left change into a an elderly with white hair. Her wrinkled face smiled at him and he had never felt happier.

did you write this in 5... wait, did you write this in five minutes?? that's a lot of typing.

So... Was Magnus from the future? He's from the future, met his wife in the past, went only a little bit into the future but got stuck, not being able to navigate to when he comes from. But at least it was in a year his wife was still alive. Is that it?

Great story.

No, this is the weekendfreewrite with 3 prompts. So you write with one prompt. Next go look for the second one and write again..after that the 3rd one.

Altogether it takes a bit longer. I type fast even on my phone but editing and posting takes me a lot of time. Too much actually.

I agree it's interesting to compare mine to yours! Both of them have the feel of fables. I love that time travel idea of yours.
