Only For a Season - Freewrite

The silence pierced her peace, yet she refused to speak to him. Willow was done crying or fighting.  Now she was making plans.  The silence was mutual.  He understood quite well that the conversation altered their future, and he was okay with it. In fact,  his plane ticket was in the glove box and baggage in the trunk. Tomorrow, he'd be in Belize, sipping cocktails and facing his lovely Mia.  This went far better than he had anticipated. His checklist was half completed. How could he be so fortunate that she'd fall for his story so quickly.   

They pulled up at the curb of their hotel. He planned on taking his overnight bag already packed in the room and racing to the airport.  He travels first class. He was eagerly looking forward to a bourbon on the rocks.  

She got out of the Mercedes as soon as it slowed to a stop. Her high heels spoke an angry tap, tap on concrete. She didn't bother to look behind her but pulled open the hotel door before a bell hop could open it. She nodded to him distractedlly and made it to the open elevator, pushing the lit button.  Dane missed the elevator but called the next. 

He glanced at his watch, calculating his drive in traffic to the airport.   He hoped her silence wouldn't break, but she would continue to seethe with righteous indignation. 

The elevator opened, and he strode purposefully around the bend. Two men in suits greeted him, holding handguns pointing at Dane's chest. 

"Dane Masters? You are under arrest for the murder of your partner, Samuel Hart."
