A coin for every occasion: 20th November 1947 - "i do"...

Throughout the month of November, ill be looking back at historical moments from the past. From conflicts to coronations, sporting moments to royal memories, and famous firsts and lasts. With my love of all things shiny and precious, ill be trying to tie these events in with coins that have been created to commemorate these moments.

The then Princess Elizabeth married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947, and he was at the monarch's side throughout the decades, supporting her in her role as head of state.

Back in 2017, to make the anniversary, the Royal Mint released a commemorative, £5 coin to mark their 70th anniversary.

Unfortunately for her, this is the first time in 74 years shes been alone, as Prince Philip passed away earlier this year.

While this coin was minted innits millions, after the death of Philip, and as time goes by, coins commemorating anniversaries and royal events involving both of them will inevitably increase in value.
