Traveling back to the enchanting year of 1947, a remarkable tale unfolded at the Royal Mint—it marked the poignant end of an era as the last silver circulating coin was minted on January 2nd. The decision to bid adieu to silver in coin production had been brewing for years, culminating in a historic shift from full-bodied to token coins. No longer would coins hold the intrinsic value in silver matching their market worth; instead, a new era dawned with the introduction of cupro-nickel—an alloy dancing with the harmonies of copper and nickel.

Fast forward to my silver-stacking escapades, which commenced in the silver-kissed year of 2015. My collection journey embraced not only the allure of 1oz bullion coins but also the charm of what our American friends affectionately call "constitutional silver." For me, silver in any form is a treasure worth pursuing, and these diminutive coins offer a pocket-friendly gateway to this radiant world.

Now, as the pages of 2024 unfold, I've set myself a spirited challenge—to fill a second kilner jar with 50% pre-1947 silver. Picture this jar as a vessel of history, already cradling about £600 worth of silver. The endeavor ahead may require a few leaps into the realm of investments, possibly beckoning the commitment of a few thousand pounds.

The Royal Mint, ever-evolving, still dabbles with silver, reserving it for the creation of commemorative coins and cherished gifts. Silver, with its timeless touch, continues to be a bearer of wishes, health, wealth, and prosperity—entwined with the threads of tradition on special occasions.

Funny enough, summertooth mentioned the small series of blogs i did about trying tocspend a UK Britannia- face value £2. Not a single shop would touch it and accept it as payment.... 

Its all about profits for the mint and not letting the public have sound mkney anymore
