What is the most important post-processing technique you can learn for photography? Luminosity masking. In short, it is a technique where one selects ranges of luminosity and applies dodging and burning only to that luminosity range. This effectively allows you to pull out much more dynamic range while staying true to the detail in an photo. It takes a bit of extra time care when editing, but I promise, once you have this technique down you will wonder how you ever processed work and kept it 'believable' before!
