"Black fungus", is a dangerous infection that is known as mucormycosis, is very rare and is acquired by contact with spores of the mucor fungus, which is usually found in soil, plants, compost and fruits and vegetables that are in a state of decay. It can also be acquired through cuts or open wounds on the skin.
In India, this dangerous infection is spreading at an alarming rate and there are fears that it could become an epidemic in that country. There are many cases of this infection, most of them are people suffering from AIDS, diabetes or are recovering from covid-19 due to the amount of corticosteroids they are left with a weakened immune system and are prone to contract this infection. Excessive use of steroids for the treatment of covid-19 could be one of the causes for the development of this terrible disease that is attacking India in a very harsh way. 
It has symptoms similar to those of the coronavirus fever, cough or difficulty breathing, the most characteristic are also present facial swelling on one side of the face, nasal congestion and black lesions that occur on the bridge of the nose or the upper inner part of the mouth.
Due to the precarious situation, the lack of medicines and the chaos regarding sanitation in India, this has favored the spread of the black fungus in the population, unlike other countries that do have sanitary systems and also have sufficient resources to combat this infection.
