Life can be very complex and at the same time so simple. I love having conversations with myself, getting to know myself and what I want out of life. This is the point where minimalism comes in - finding myself.

As an introspective individual, a lot of things have to matter to me otherwise, I would be uncomfortable. It could be the big things like my life choices or little things like my choice of cutlery.

Being a minimalist in a very maximalist/commercial kind of world can be very shaky if you're not well-grounded. You wouldn't know yourself deeply because it's easy to go with the crowd and stick with the trends.

I've always leaned toward a simple lifestyle but I've had to fall off from this way of living a few times. Influence can be very powerful as it comes in several forms, not knowing yourself means you become easily influenced by others.

Of course, there's positive influence and it is well-known that no one is an island so you have to learn from others. However, you need to be well-grounded in your knowledge of self in order not to lose your originality despite external influence.

I love how minimalism has made me confident in myself and my choices. I have become more intentional about things I really like and what I want around me. While I respect other people's choices, I know myself well enough to the point that nobody can feed me anything different.

In the past, people would question my choices and in some cases even laugh about it and I would feel weird about it. Since embracing minimalism as a concept and way of living, I don't even feel weird about being 'shamed' for simplicity. I'm always open to suggestions and opinions but I like what I like and only I can change that. 

Minimalism has played into all areas of my life and has made me intentional about a lot of things. From decluttering my closet down to decluttering my contact list and unnecessary access to people in my life, I have found peace in the overall simplicity.


One of my favourite things about minimalism is intentionality and self-awareness. It has helped me focus on key areas of my life that are necessary for growth. It has made me more organized and I function better with lesser breakdowns. I used to be a serial multi-tasker but I've had to be minimalist about that also and I can say I get work done faster when I sort tasks individually.

Minimalism is definitely more than decluttering and spending less, when it becomes your lifestyle, you feel its effect in every area and the world makes more sense. At least, that's how I feel about it. I found myself thanks to minimalism and I wouldn't have it any other way.
