In the last few years, I've been able to cut down on my use of social media. I'd say it all stems from getting older and realising some things are not necessary.

 I'm more social on social media because I write better than I talk, so a couple years back you'd find me on Facebook everyday. I eventually cut down on Facebook because I was spending too much time there and had relatives and acquaintances all up in my business. I intended deleting my Facebook entirely last month but I changed my mind after considering the fact that I'd need it to market my business in the coming months. 

I logged in to post a picture like I do once in a while to keep the engagement coming and to my surprise, I saw several comments of people congratulating me on my Introduction/engagement ceremony from last Saturday. I was weirded out because now more people than I intended know I'm getting married and I got so many messages from people 'mad' at me for not telling them about the Introduction.

WhatsApp is a necessary evil because I get some important information there amidst all of the pointless interaction. I froze the WhatsApp app last week and only open when I need to check for info. This means little to no chatting and keeping up with other's lives through their status updates. I really don't know how to explain it but I feel so much lighter not keeping up with people. Is it that the constant anxiety I feel is from being pressured by what I see? 

It feels good coming online after a few days and seeing messages from just the few people I expected would check on me. They're the same people I care about and are like me, who are generally overwhelmed by social media.



This episode with Facebook kept me amazed at how fast news travel on social media and it's stamped for life. Now I'm extra careful about what I put out. I was reading about people being denied visas, scholarships and jobs because at one point they shared their opinion on social media and now it's been used against them.

I don't want my words to be misconstrued or have these acquaintances thinking they know me on social media so I rather keep off now. It bores me anyway, except Hive ofcourse. It's more productivity here.

I'm done being too social on mainstream social media.
