Homemade Crochet Yarns.

**Allow me to share with you all one of my recent inventions.**



It is no news that the prices of certain commodities have spiked  in my nation and like they say “necessity is the mother of invention.”

A few weeks back, I gathered some clothes which I wasn't wearing anymore due to one reason or another and among these clothes, I saw an opportunity.



Some t-shirts were among the clothes and I figured something out. Instead of throwing them away, why not recycle them into something useful?  Loads of upcycling ideas came to mind but then I remembered that I don't even know how to thread a machine so why stress? It was at this point that I got the idea to convert them into yarns as I have seen yarns made from clothes and they always look fabulous.

## Materials Used

* Old T-shirts
* A pair of scissors
* Measuring tape
* A stick.

## Procedure.

First off, I gathered all the t-shirts that didn't look absolutely terrible.  Then I placed the t-shirt  on a flat surface as precisely as possible, to prevent wrinkles.

A few inches from the tip of the armpit, I started cutting horizontally.  This is where the measuring tape comes in. You can measure the inches to ensure that your cuts are even.

I made a horizontal line  and at the other end of the t-shirt, I left about an inch. Simply put, I didn't cut the shirt till the very end.

I continued making horizontal lines all through the half of the t-shirt which I was working with  till I got to the bottom of the  t-shirt.

At the button, I made a cut at the centre of the t-shirt, towards the sealed end.

With this, I got my first strand.  I went ahead to precisely cut by the sides and not by the centre. Cutting by the centre would only lead to a circle and not a strand. This was the most technical part of the whole project.

After getting a long rope from the precise cutting, I went ahead to stretch the rope out by tugging. Tugging it made the piece more stretchy, giving it a similar elasticity to yarns.

The last thing I did was to wrap my newly made yarn round a stick as I do not have the equipment  for wrapping  yarns.

After wrapping, I carefully pulled out the stick to prevent it from loosening.  This gave me the final result.

I must say that I was honestly surprised at the length of yarn I got from one t-shirt.  I hope to crochet my homemade yarn into something beautiful very soon. If you have any ideas as to what j should crochet with the yarn, do well to let me know.
