Wednesday Walk (Ride) Down to the Art-Walk

The last few years has seen the city I live in work on some plans to turn an otherwise un-used tract of land into an "art walk." The tract of land in question can be seen in this first photo, and would begin right about where I was standing and continue down in the distance to where the bus stop sits.

Some art pieces have already begun to be erected. There will also be a walking path to take people from piece to piece. The sign with the plans shows several more in the works but, as this has been several years now, I'm thinking the city is having trouble finding the funds to continue and complete.

This was the first piece that was put up a few years ago and it attracted my attention. It's only a few miles from my house, and I've kept meaning to go photograph, but have only now gotten around to it.

I like this next piece, the yellow one in two pieces. I actually really like it.

What I like most about it is that this is not how the piece was originally intended to be displayed. Originally it was **one** piece, not two, and was a large spiral, but when the person installing it was doing so it broke. I know because I was watching, and he just rather stood there befuddled. Personally, I think it looks better like this.

This poor little dude sits there on his own without anyone nearby to keep him company.

Even the yellow swirly at least has a manhole cover for company. What's even more interesting to me is that, in this company, even the manhole cover is art.

The last item on the art walk is this blue cube phenomena. I looked. None of these items are named (the city must have run out of money so quickly they couldn't even put up a plaque). No offence to the artist involved, but this piece is my least favourite of the group; though I definitely appreciate the experiment in symmetry and basic shapes, it looks like building blocks.

This post is my participation for #wednesdaywalk today, even though the only walking I did was back and forth across the artwalk; otherwise, I rode my bike. It's faster than walking, and easier on the knees.

I love it.  Great Wednesday walk in a 'changing' art project.

The little spiral looks like a corn chip to me, and makes me hungry 

The city of Bisbee, Arizona recast some manhole covers for a portion of their 'arts' area.  It's actually quite attractive.

I enjoy seeing old industrial areas turned into "artistic", or "alternative" areas for creativity. There is a local meadery - about 25 minutes from me - that resides in an old industrial garage. They've decorated it with an eclectic art motif, complete with occasional axe-throwing. The property happens to reside where the routine fire hydrant would be, and they've even "branded" it with their own logo.

It is so cool to see that the city promotes art. I have noticed that here in Montreal, the city had a lot of calls for proposals for art projects than the previous years.
