*Last week Amazon showed their Blockchain templates that would make it easy for developers to create projects based on Blockchain. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) “Blockchain-as-a-service” platform will compete with projects of similar nature from Oracle, and IBM.*
The Blockchain templates provided by AWS will allow users to quickly setup two versions of the technology. They can choose between the Ethereum Blockchain or the Hyperledger Fabric from Linux Foundation.
The launch of AWS Blockchain template was announced six months after Oracle revealed their Hyperledger Fabric based cloud service and a year after IBM showed their Hyperledger Blockchain platform. Both platforms — Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric — are really popular among developers. The former is applied in thousands of services that are based on the Blockchain.
Amazon hopes that this decision and a dive into the Blockchain waters will help amazon compete with others. IBM is said to be the leader of the Blockchain development. Their revenue from cloud platform is reported to be $5.5 billion in the fourth quarter of the last year. The Blockchain technology, community, and the industry could really benefit from Amazon. It is one of the largest companies in the world and having that behind the Blockchain could make the technology more appealing and would give an overall boost of confidence.
>“AWS Blockchain Templates provide a fast and easy way to create and deploy secure blockchain networks using open source frameworks,” Amazon said. “Blockchain is a technology that makes it possible to build applications where multiple parties can record transactions without the need for a trusted, central authority to ensure that transactions are verified and secure.”
The vice president of AWS, Jeff Barr, said that Blockchain lacks clarity:
>“Some of the people that I talk to see blockchains as the foundation of a new monetary system and a way to facilitate international payments. Others see blockchains as a distributed ledger and immutable data source that can be applied to logistics, supply chain, land registration, crowdfunding and other use cases,” Barr wrote. “Either way, it’s clear that there are a lot of intriguing possibilities and we are working to help our customers use this technology more effectively.”
Amazon has been interested in the Blockchain technology for quite a while before they made this move towards it. Last month, Amazon announced a partnership with Luxoft Holding. Luxoft and other five companies are collaboration on Blockchain services that could operate on AWS.
>“Blockchain is about removing data silos, improving trust and operational efficiencies,” said Luxoft’s vice president of technology strategy Vasiliy Suvorov. “By using AWS to deploy and integrate DLTs into day-to-day processes, businesses can revolutionize how they operate.”
