Of course. If they made phones that lasted like Gameboy with upgradable parts it would mean less ma ufacturing maybe slower phones I dunno. But software needing upgrades is what we need. In 2019, that would have worked.  These days, people are more willing to give used merchandise a 2nd chance.  Pre-owned, refurbished, second-hand, or used-- whatever we call it, we're more open to it now.  Price inflation is causing more people to move in this direction than would have moved there before.

Refurbished isn't really that bad, it's not good as a new one but it's called "refurbished" not "used" because it's "fixed" to be as close to a new state as it could and it's cheaper too. *Better to resell them than throw them away.*

I wonder how carefully they wipe those phones. If the system image is corrupted, factory reset may not suffice or even a reflash over cable. I’m afraid they may not replace the flash chip, only the battery when they refurbish.
