.jpg)[<sup>(Source)</sup>](https://www.cryptotimes.io/multichain-hack-escalates-as-losses-grow-to-3m/) #### Evening So in an interesting turn of events, few days after multichain protocol hack which resulted in loss of $3 million wort tokens, a white hat hacker returns a total of 322 ETH worth $974,000 to a user and Multichain official account. Multichain is a cross-chain router protocol for Web3. Currently it supports 30 chain including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Avalanche, Terra, Litecoin and Fantom, with a TLV of around $10 billion. Earlier this week, a vulnerability in Multichain protocol relating to WETH, PERI, OMT, WBNB, MATIC, and AVAX tokens resulted in loss of $1.43 million worth tokens. Later, Multichain announced that vulnerability have been patched. But the announcement brought more trouble, as it encouraged more hackers to move in and swoop the Multichain protocol of more fund, taking the total loss to $3 million. Multichain was forced to drain its $44.5 million funds from its protocol to avoid any further loss. Multichain have been under serious fire from community ever since. Apparently, a hacker claiming to be white hat had been in communication with Multichain and one of the user who had lost funds. The hacker claimed to drain the funds from multichain protocol to protect other users funds from being stolen. The white hat hacker returned funds in four transactions. 269 ETH worth $813,000 were returned in two transactions to a user, with hefty 50 ETH worth $150,000 were kept by hacker as bug bounty.
