It’s like we’re living a remake of a dark chapter in history, only now with WiFi and fake news. The persecution of minorities, the denial of science, the worship of political figures as if they were saviors — all of this has happened before. And the outcome has never been pretty.

But unlike before, now we have new tools. Social media, which could be a space for dialogue, has become a battlefield. And worse: algorithms help reinforce bubbles, confirm distorted beliefs, and feed anger. We drift away from each other without even noticing. What’s different becomes the enemy. And then, just like that, history repeats itself.

Sometimes I wonder if we’ve learned anything from the past. Haven’t we seen enough to realize we can’t flirt with authoritarianism? That democracy requires daily effort? That freedom of speech is not a license to offend or spread lies?

And don’t get me wrong — I’m not saying the past was perfect. Far from it. Brazil has always had open wounds, like slavery, the 1964 coup, the dictatorship, structural inequality, the genocide of Black people, the marginalization of Indigenous peoples. But what breaks me is seeing so many people trying to erase that pain from our national memory. Trying to rewrite history with white ink and clean hands.

Can we change this? I believe we can. Not with magic, of course. But with small acts of resistance. With conversation, with listening, with the courage to step out of our bubble. With serious journalism, with thought-provoking art, with critical education. And most importantly, with conscious voting.

History doesn’t have to repeat itself if we’re willing to face it head-on. To look at mistakes not as something distant, but as part of who we are. To understand that every political choice, no matter how small it may seem, has a real impact on someone’s life. And that sitting on the fence often means being complicit with the wrong side.

I know, it’s exhausting. Living in a country that keeps stumbling over the same stone drains whatever hope is left. But I still believe we can do things differently. Because, deep down, history is also made by people who resisted, who fought, who chose not to repeat the mistake. And if they could do it, maybe we can too.

A gente estudou o nazismo e o fascismo nas aulas de história, mas parece que não entendeu. Achamos que era coisa de filme preto e branco, de outro tempo, de outra gente. Só que as sementes do autoritarismo continuam aí, sendo regadas com desinformação, medo e ressentimento. E quando a população começa a acreditar que o problema são os professores, os artistas, os jornalistas, os indígenas, os cientistas — como já vimos acontecer — é sinal de que algo está muito errado.

É como se estivéssemos vivendo uma reedição de um capítulo sombrio da história, só que agora com WiFi e fakenews. A perseguição a minorias, a negação da ciência, o culto a figuras políticas como se fossem salvadores — tudo isso já aconteceu. E o resultado nunca foi bonito.

Só que, diferente de antes, agora temos ferramentas novas. Redes sociais que poderiam ser espaço de diálogo viraram campo de batalha. E o pior: algoritmos ajudam a reforçar bolhas, a confirmar crenças equivocadas, a alimentar a raiva. A gente se distancia do outro sem nem perceber. O diferente vira inimigo. E aí, pronto, a história se repete.

Tem vezes que me pergunto se a gente aprendeu alguma coisa com o passado. Será que não vimos o suficiente para entender que não dá pra flertar com o autoritarismo? Que democracia exige esforço diário? Que liberdade de expressão não é licença pra ofender ou desinformar?

E olha que não tô dizendo que antes era perfeito. Longe disso. O Brasil sempre teve cicatrizes abertas, como a escravidão, o golpe de 64, a ditadura, a desigualdade estrutural, o genocídio da população preta, a marginalização dos povos originários. Mas o que me desespera é ver tanta gente querendo apagar essas dores da memória nacional. Querendo reescrever a história com tinta branca e mãos limpas.

Dá pra mudar isso? Eu acho que sim. Não com um passe de mágica, claro. Mas com pequenos atos de resistência. Com conversa, com escuta, com coragem de sair da bolha. Com jornalismo sério, com arte que cutuca, com educação crítica. E, principalmente, com voto consciente.

A história não precisa se repetir se a gente estiver disposto a enfrentá-la de frente. Olhar para os erros não como algo distante, mas como parte de quem somos. Entender que cada escolha política, por menor que pareça, tem impacto real na vida de alguém. E que ficar em cima do muro, muitas vezes, é ser cúmplice do lado errado.

Eu sei, é cansativo. Viver num país que parece tropeçar sempre na mesma pedra esgota qualquer esperança. Mas ainda acredito que dá pra fazer diferente. Porque, no fundo, a história também é feita de gente que resistiu, que lutou, que escolheu não repetir o erro. E se eles conseguiram, talvez a gente também consiga.
