En Perseo la formación académica especializada de los niños, iniciaba tan pronto como demostraban inclinación por alguna actividad científica, tecnológica, filosófica o artística, la mayoría iniciaba a los diez años, los que demostraban potencialidad más temprano, lo hacían a los ocho, lo menos dotados a los doce y los que no mostraban de inmediato aptitudes continuaban su formación básica, hasta que lo hicieran o concluyeran la academia a los quince años y fueran asignados a labores que no requerían formación especializada. 

Para Richard, pronto sería el momento de incorporarse formalmente al trabajo en el programa espacial, lo que había sido su sueño desde los seis años, la graduación de la academia era el momento más esperado por todos los jóvenes de Perseo, sería la culminación de su infancia y el inicio de su vida adulta.
