## El Ascensor Orbital.

Esta sería mi última noche en la tierra, mañana partiría rumbo a la estación espacial y de ahí con destino a Marte, nunca he sido de los que gustan de pasar mi tiempo en la naturaleza, pero por alguna razón, decidí pasar al aire libre mis últimas horas en la tierra, conduje hasta las afueras de la ciudad y me refugié en un pequeño bosquecillo, no iba a hacer una fogata y cocinar en ella o algo por el estilo, sólo extendí una bolsa de dormir encendí el calefactor y me recosté entre los arbustos a ver el cielo nocturno.

Desde el envenenamiento de los mares, la humanidad había iniciado una rápida carrera por escapar del planeta, las zonas costeras fueron abandonadas y la población se había refugiado en las tierras interiores del continente, ya eran pocas las zonas habitables, las más pobladas eran las cercanas al elevador orbital, ahí se habían establecido todos los campos de refugiados, a la espera de poder emigrar a Marte y a la colonia de Titán.

Mi viaje a la colonia de Marte, sería como parte del equipo que tendría como trabajo acondicionar las áreas de los alrededores del núcleo central, para el cultivo y ganadería, hasta ahora Marte sólo había sido un centro vacacional, pero debíamos adaptarlo para ser una residencia más o menos permanente para la humanidad, al menos mientras se recibían noticias de las naves colonizadoras, que serían lanzadas en dos años.

En la madrugada regresé a la Base Samuel Hilbert, a los pies del elevador orbital, a medio día ascendería mi grupo, seriamos un equipo de cien personas de diversas profesiones, todos con destino a la colonia de Marte, para mañana en la noche partiríamos en una nave de tipo Aurora, que para esta hora ya debía estar aprovisionada.

El ascensor orbital no era más que un par de gigantescos cables que conectaba a la tierra con la estación espacial, en órbita geoestacionaria, desde su construcción el desarrollo espacial, había empezado a avanzar de forma gigantesca, pues su capacidad de carga era muy superior a la de cualquier vehículo que pudiese ser lanzado desde tierra, aparte de la posibilidad de elevar una carga tras otra, sólo con unas pocas horas de inactividad al día y las cuales eran dedicadas a cargar lo que sería elevado.

Las cápsulas de ascenso eran cilindros de treinta metros de alto y quince de diámetro, cada uno era capaz de elevar una carga máxima de cincuenta toneladas, pero el cable de ascenso podía soportar hasta cuatro capsulas simultaneas con carga plena, el ascenso hasta la estación espacial duraba unas nueve horas y por seguridad las capsulas se lanzaban cada tres horas.

Una vez en la estación espacial, las capsulas eran desmontadas del cable, para descargar su contenido, y luego ser montadas en el cable de descenso, en la mayoría de los casos vacías. Los cables de ascenso y descenso se prolongaban miles de kilómetros allá de la estación espacial donde se encontraba el contrapeso que les servía de anclaje en el espacio.

En mi recorrido de camino a la Base Samuel Hilbert, el vehículo cruzó la ruta entre las miles de tiendas que servían de alojamiento temporal a los refugiados, se extendían en los amplios terrenos de los alrededores, que anteriormente se mantenían despejados por seguridad, su aspecto era como el de largas hileras de fichas de dominó que se extendían hasta donde alcanzaba la vista.

Al frente se podía ver la base un amplio pero bajo edificio que ocupaba buena parte del campo de visión, no era realmente una instalación militar o científica, como se hubiese esperado, en realidad era como un gran almacén de carga, una especie de centro de despacho de mercancía, su propósito era fundamentalmente dar servicio a las capsulas de ascenso y cargarlas o descargarlas, permanentemente una corta fila de camiones estaba formada en las bahías de carga que estaban en su ala oeste, trayendo equipos y materiales que serían elevados a la estación espacial

Mientras nos aproximábamos pude ver como descendía una de las capsulas, era como un pequeño edificio que lentamente bajaba cruzando el cielo de forma vertical, parecía simplemente flotar plácidamente sin emitir ningún sonido, desde donde estábamos los cables no se veían, eran tan delgados, que sólo se podían distinguir claramente desde menos de cien metros.

Después de esperar unas tres horas, abordé junto a otras noventa y nueve personas una capsula especialmente acondicionada para el transporte de personas, tras nosotros una segunda capsula de personal con otros cien pasajeros sería enviada, al parecer se habría más personal del que estaba planificado.

En cada uno de los cuatro niveles de la capsula una oficial militar verificaba e indicaba el asiento que cada tripulante debía ocupar, - ¿Número de identificación y nombre? -. me dijo oscamente cuando estuve frente a él, -Matías Benítez, número 77d - , le respondí, señaló a su derecha, sin levantar la vista del pantalla de su anotador, - segundo asiento de la primera fila-, me dijo sin prestarme mayor atención. Ocupé mi asiento, y me ajusté el cinturón como me habían indicado, una hora después inició nuestro viaje a Marte.

## The Orbital Elevator

My trip to the colony of Mars, would be as part of the team that would have as work to prepare the areas around the central core, for farming and livestock, until now Mars had only been a resort, but we had to adapt it to be a residence more or less permanent for humanity, at least while receiving news of the colonizing ships, which would be launched in two years.

In the early morning I returned to the Samuel Hilbert Base, at the foot of the orbital elevator, at midday my group would ascend, we would be a team of one hundred people of different professions, all destined for the colony of Mars, for tomorrow night we would depart in an Aurora-type ship, which by this time should have been provisioned.

The orbital elevator was no more than a pair of gigantic cables that connected the earth with the space station, in geostationary orbit, since its construction the space development, had begun to advance in a gigantic way, because its load capacity was much higher than that of any vehicle that could be launched from the ground, apart from the possibility of raising one load after another, only with a few hours of inactivity per day and which were dedicated to loading what would be elevated.

The capsules of ascent were cylinders of thirty meters of height and fifteen of diameter, each one was able to raise a maximum load of fifty tons, but the cable of ascent could support up to four simultaneous capsules with full load, the ascent until the space station it lasted about nine hours and for safety the capsules leave every three hours.

Once in the space station, the capsules were removed from the cable, to discharge their contents, and then be mounted on the descent cable, in most cases empty. The cables of ascent and descent extended thousands of kilometers beyond the space station where was the counterweight that served as anchorage in space.

On my way to Samuel Hilbert Base, the vehicle crossed the route between the thousands of tents that served as temporary accommodation for the refugees, spread out in the large surrounding grounds, which were previously kept clear for safety, his appearance was like that of long rows of dominoes that stretched as far as the eye could see.

In front I could see the base, a wide but low building that occupied a good part of the field of vision, it was not really a military or scientific installation, as you would have expected, it was really like a large cargo warehouse, a sort of merchandise dispatch, its purpose was essentially to service the capsules of ascent and load or unload them, permanently a short line of trucks was formed in the cargo bays that were in its west wing, bringing equipment and materials that would be elevated to the space station.

While we were approaching I could see how one of the capsules descended, it was like a small building that slowly went down vertically crossing the sky, it seemed to float placidly without emitting any sound, from where we were the cables were not seen, they were so thin, that they could only be clearly distinguished from less than one hundred meters.

After waiting about three hours, I boarded with another ninety-nine people a capsule specially equipped for the transport of people, after us a second capsule of staff with another hundred passengers would be sent, apparently there would be more staff than planned.

In each of the four levels of the capsule, a military officer verified and indicated the seat that each crew member had to occupy, - Identification number and name? -. he told me oscaly when I was in front of him, -Matías Benítez, number 77d-, I answered him, he pointed to his right, without looking up from the screen of his notebook, - second seat in the first row-, he told me without paying me much attention . I took my seat, and I adjusted my belt as they had instructed me, an hour later we began our trip to Mars.

I really like the way to make the sky , that look like there is a strong wind

There is an beautiful island in the sky and there the plants grow luxuriantly.

These unusual magnificent plants delight our eyes! 
Their leaves are very different shapes and bright green. and the grass is green.
 But the islets of snow on the stones and the winter sky remind that today is New Year's Eve!
 So we'll decorate branches of these beautiful plants, celebrate the New Year and make our inmost wishes!

A very well done and creative work ... A tribute to the nocturnal nature, The shadows that are reflected make me imagine that there is a huge full moon, the mist makes me feel the cold of the night, that cold that makes you hurt bones. I can even hear the crickets and toads and any nocturnal animal.

I am sitting in a mini rainforest that my grandmother has at home, I ate a piece of cake without her permission, so I chose the best place to hide, I have a starry sky in front that tells me, that life is only live one day at a time and every day is not repeated, my grandmother will be angry soon so I must be gentler with her.

I imagine...

After flying for nine months the astronauts got to mars it was cold, bleak and not a plant to be seen but when they got to their camp an insulated thermal bubble they couldn't beleave their eyes, there were green grass as far as the eyes could see and a few plant here and there, the atmosphere was so thin that you could see the stars clearly and there was a few small clouds from the plants!
