## Infierno Blanco

Rhonald se aproximó lo más que pudo al calefactor, sus adormecidas manos estaban prácticamente pegadas de la rejilla del aparato, la batería casi se había agotado; cuando esto sucediera, sólo su traje térmico lo protegería de las heladas temperaturas del casquete polar de Tetis.

Una extensa capa de hielo cubría el polo norte del planeta, por la inclinación del eje de rotación, esta parte del globo, no recibía luz de la fría enana roja, durante todo el año, por lo que el océano estaba congelado hasta varias decenas de metros de profundidad.

Rhonald, piloto de una pequeña nave de exploración, había caído sobre la capa de hielo polar de Tetis, durante una misión de reconocimiento y monitoreo de los sistemas de terraformación, que se encontraban por aquel entonces adecuando el planeta para su habitabilidad.

Completamente solo, a cinco años luz de la estación de emergencia más próxima, ahora dependía de que los sistemas de terraformación pudieran detectar su última transmisión de emergencia y la IA, actuara, enviando un paquete de información a la estación, para que enviaran una misión de rescate.

Ya habían pasado diez días de su accidentado descenso, su nave se despedazó durante el impacto, quedando sus restos dispersos a lo largo de dos kilómetros sobre la blanca capa de hielo. Para su fortuna, pudo rescatar los paquetes de suministros que llevaba para la misión y el calefactor de emergencia, sin embargo, después de diez días, las baterías del calefactor estaban casi agotadas y los alimentos se habían terminado.

Por segunda vez, golpeo la rejilla del aparato, esperando inútilmente que eso lo hiciera emitir más calor. Sus dedos, adormecidos y amoratados por el frio, empezaban a sentirse más como pedazos de carne muerta, que como parte de sus manos. No se había retirado las botas desde que llegó a aquel infierno congelado, pero sentía que, en sus pies, sucedía algo similar a lo que podía ver en sus manos.

El traje térmico parecía ya no estar funcionando, al parecer, los escasos fotones que llegaban a aquel lugar, no eran suficientes como para recargar sus baterías, así que su sistema de climatización dinámico había dejado de funcionar, y sólo lo protegían las capas de tejido aislante que lo formaban y que eran insuficientes para mantenerlo caliente por sí solas.

Ahora, sin ninguna fuente de calor y aparentemente sin esperanza de recibir ayuda, sentía que todo había llegado a su final, sin más que hacer, temblando violentamente y con todos sus músculos contraídos, se puso de pie y empezó a caminar de un lado a otro sin rumbo, simplemente intentando inútilmente calentar su cuerpo. Una gran sensación de cansancio y somnolencia lo agobiaban, pero sabia que no podía dejarse vencer por el sueño, no sin antes encontrar como calentarse.

Caminó a lo largo de la línea del impacto, esperando encontrar algo que lo ayudará, al llegar al principio, sitio donde la nave golpeó el hielo por primara vez, pudo encontrar uno de los pequeños cohetes de combustible químico, que aun eran usados para disminuir la velocidad de las cápsulas de escape al llegar a tierra, de alguna extraña manera había ido a tener ahí.

Se recostó de un fragmento grande del fuselaje que había quedado en el lugar y se empezó a quitar el traje térmico, por alguna razón que desconocía, sentía que le empezaba a quemar el cuerpo y le pareció que también sería un buen objeto para quemar con el combustible del cohete.

Vestido ahora sólo con la delgada ropa interior, colocó el mameluco térmico sobre el hielo y con su navaja agujereo el tanque de combustible del cohete, derramando el gel combustible, que aun a tan bajas temperatura, permanecía fluido, luego, con la batería de su inútil comunicador el cual había retirado del mameluco, antes de dejarlo en el piso, y un par de cables que arrancó con dificultad de los circuitos del cohete, logró, a duras penas, debido a sus endurecidos dedos, encender la tela impregnada en combustible.

―Lo encontramos, señor, pero su cuerpo estaba completamente carbonizado ―dijo el cadete, señalando en dirección a un gran trozo de fuselaje de la nave siniestrada.

―¿Cómo pasó? ―pregunto el líder de la misión de rescate.

―Es difícil de decir, aun sus restos están humeantes ―dijo el joven haciendo u gesto de desagrado ―. Al parecer trató de encender fuego con combustible de un booster, y lo derramó sobre él, al encenderlo se incendió a si mismo. Encontramos el tanque del cohete perforado. Tal parece que ocurrió hace pocas horas.

For the second time, he hit the grill of the appliance, uselessly hoping that it would cause it to emit more heat. His fingers, numbed and bruised by the cold, began to feel more like pieces of dead flesh than as part of his hands. He had not removed his boots since he arrived in that frozen hell, but he felt that, on his feet, something similar to what he could see in his hands was happening.

The thermal suit no longer seemed to be working, apparently, the few photons that arrived at that place, were not enough to recharge their batteries, so their dynamic air conditioning system had stopped working, and only the layers of insulating fabric that formed it and were insufficient to keep it warm on their own.

Now, with no source of heat and apparently no hope of receiving help, he felt that everything had come to an end, with nothing more to do, shaking violently and with all his muscles contracted, he stood up and began to walk from one side to the other aimlessly, simply trying uselessly to warm up his body. A great sensation of tiredness and drowsiness overwhelmed him, but he knew that he could not be overcome by sleep, not before finding how to warm up.

He walked along the line of impact, hoping to find something that would help him, when he arrived at the beginning, place where the ship hit the ice for the first time, he could find one of the small chemical fuel rockets, which were still used to slow down the escape capsules when he got to land, in some strange way he had gone to have there.

He leaned back from a large fragment of the fuselage that had remained in place and began to remove the thermal suit, for some reason that he did not know, he felt that it began to burn the body and it seemed to him that it would also be a good object to burn with the fuel of the rocket.

Dressed now only in his thin underwear, he placed the thermal mamluk on the ice and with his hole knife the fuel tank of the rocket, spilling the fuel gel, which even at such a low temperature, remained fluid, then, with the battery of his useless communicator which he had removed from the mamluk, before leaving it on the floor, and a couple of cables that he had difficulty pulling out of the circuits of the rocket, he managed, with difficulty, due to his hardened fingers, to ignite the fabric impregnated with fuel.

# Communication through the portal.

It was a rainy day, brothers Daniel and Carlos were so bored and desperate, because the rain did not stop and the cold was getting worse.
Trying to run away from boredom they decided to watch television but the strong thunder damaged the signal, the boys decided to do other things, when they were already entertained a noise coming from the TV called their attention, they were in morse code, the boys knew well about that , because his father was passionate about the telegraph.
So the boys took paper and pencil and translated the signs that came to him, someone asked for help, because the flood was such that even pieces of ice floated outside their homes.
The boys lived very close to the sea and knew that when he cried so hard anything that could happen.
They wanted to communicate, they wanted to answer the signals but they didn't know how to do it, they decided to leave and arrive at the address they had given, but when they left the house they saw that they had the sea too close.
This situation was definitely more complicated than they thought, they went back home and when they saw the TV there was already the normal signal, in all the media they talked about a portal that had opened between the sky and the sea, causing the sea grew to never seen quantities.

Many spoke of code communications that gave directions which were within the portal, it was an unprecedented situation, which had changed the history of the inhabitants of the earth.
The rain stopped but the portal never closed, there were times that Daniel and Carlos listened to news and communications in code, they knew they had no response but enjoyed when that happened, they remembered their father.
