## Delfines de Júpiter

Hoy desperté con una extraña imagen ante mis ojos, entre una infinidad de espirales y manchas informes, en un sinfín de nubes desgarradas de colores pardos, grises y ocres, deformadas y alargadas por violentos vientos, la reconocible silueta de un delfín se dibujaba con toda claridad, parece increíble, -hay delfines en Júpiter- pensé y me reí a carcajadas en la soledad de la cabina.

Era mi décimo día en órbita alrededor de Europa, por primera vez desde que estoy aquí puedo identificar una figura en las nubes del planeta, un delfín…, un delfín nadando en las turbulentas nubes del mayor de los planetas, pude recordar las tarde en que, recostado en la yerba junto a mi hermana, buscábamos animales entre las nubes.

Pero Júpiter no es la tierra, sus nubes no son hebras de algodón flotando sobre el fondo azul de los mares, esto es más como una gigantesca y turbulenta bola, hecha por muchas capas de pintura de diferentes tonos de ocre, marrón y gris, como el lienzo de un pintor impresionista.

El monitor de actividades del módulo de descenso indicaba que Dimitri y Valeria, no estaban en su interior, supuse que debían estar haciendo cubitos de hielo, como siempre les decía, cada vez que tenia una actividad sobre la superficie helada de Europa, los monitores de sus funciones corporales indicaban que todo parecía andar bien.

Nuestra misión era sentar las bases para una nueva colonia terrestre que junto a las de Marte y Titan serían los futuros asentamientos de la ya escaza población de nuestro moribundo planeta. 

Se tenía previsto que Europa sería un destino temporal para los humanos. Varias décadas habían pasado ya, desde que naves colonizadoras, portadoras de la semilla humana, había partido con destino a ciento cincuenta mundos prometedores, en otros sistemas planetarios. La espera duraría siglos, tal vez más de mil años, antes de recibir respuesta de las inteligencias artificiales de abordo, anunciado que las colonias estaban prosperando, esto, si alguna de ellas llegaba a buen término.

Mis compañeros sobre la superficie trabajaban a toda prisa, pronto sería el momento del arribo de las naves portadoras de los módulos habitacionales que recibirían a los colonos, dentro de unos diez años, esta sería la colonia más grande de los humanos fuera de la tierra, esperemos que no termine siendo su última morada.

Ya habían pasado quince horas desde que había iniciado mi monitoreo de las actividades de Dimitri y Valeria, ya habían regresado al módulo a descansar para continuar al “día” siguiente. Por mi parte dormiría unas cinco horas, me recosté en la silla y nuevamente al ver Júpiter y su delfín de nubes recuerde a mi hermana, ojalá estuviera aquí para verlo, como hacíamos cuando éramos niños en la tierra, ojalá aun estuviera conmigo.

## Jupiter dolphins

Today I woke up with a strange image before my eyes, between an infinite number of spirals and telltale spots, in endless clouds torn brown, gray and ocher, deformed and stretched by violent winds, the recognizable silhouette of a dolphin was drawn with all clarity, it seems incredible, -there are dolphins on Jupiter- I thought and laughed in the solitude of the cabin.

It was my tenth day in orbit around Europe, for the first time since I am here I can identify a figure in the clouds of the planet, a dolphin ..., a dolphin swimming in the turbulent clouds of the largest of the planets, I could remember the afternoon when , reclining in the grass with my sister, we looked for animals among the clouds.

But Jupiter is not the earth, its clouds are not cotton threads floating on the blue background of the seas, this is more like a gigantic and turbulent ball, made by many layers of paint of different shades of ocher, brown and gray, like the canvas of an impressionist painter.

The activity monitor of the descent module indicated that Dimitri and Valeria were not inside, I assumed that they should be making ice cubes, as I always told them, every time they had an activity on the icy surface of Europe, the monitors of his bodily functions indicated that everything seemed to be going well.

Our mission was to lay the foundations for a new terrestrial colony that together with those of Mars and Titan would be the future settlements of the already scarce population of our dying planet.

It was anticipated that Europe would be a temporary destination for humans. Several decades had already passed, since colonizing ships, carriers of human seed, had departed for a hundred and fifty promising worlds, in other planetary systems. The wait would take centuries, perhaps more than a thousand years, before receiving a response from the artificial intelligences on board, announced that the colonies were prospering, this, if any of them came to fruition.

My companions on the surface worked in a hurry, soon it would be the moment of arrival of the ships carrying the housing modules that would receive the settlers, in about ten years, this would be the largest colony of humans out of the earth, let's hope it does not end up being his final resting place.

It had already been fifteen hours since I had started monitoring the activities of Dimitri and Valeria, they had already returned to the module to rest to continue to the next "day". For my part I would sleep about five hours, I leaned back in the chair and again to see Jupiter and her cloud dolphin remember my sister, I wish she was here to see it, as we did when we were children on earth, I wish she was still with me.
