I've actually found that, even amidst the mountains of spam, the conversations I have with people here on steemit are much more civil and intellectually rewarding than the inevitable flame wars that plague facebook and twitter. Somehow knowing our words and thoughts are worth someone else's (monetary valuable) upvote - or not - seems to make people say more thought-through, well-articulated and less inflammatory things.

Very nice post @yabapmatt. The Golden Rule (Matthews 7:12, Luke 6:31) old but not obsolete and will never be. In a modern world we are living, it is very challenging for us to apply this "The Golden Rule" but for me, the joy of living with it pays the best of value.. Thanks for sharing..

Very true! People escalate everything in their online responses vs face to face interactions, the blockers of anonymity and the disconnect of body language decrease their attachment to the other person.

I think the golden rule is even more important in online interactions, as there is a permanent record of all your communication on the internet! Also things can quickly spiral if you get into a mud-slinging fight online,  far better to nip it in the bud with unexpected kindness!

if only the "golden rule" that you convey is capable of being digested by everyone then it will be peace of the world, because the beginning of the problem in this world is our heart and oral, the heart that moves everything so that every interaction can take place.

the golden rule you are referring to is actually the desire of every human being to be treated as well as possible and appreciated, but we do not forget also that nature is already created for  day and night, there is good and evil, we humans can only choose the best according to us, if man believes the existence of god then god has also prepared hell and heaven for man, and "golden rule" is one way to get into the door of heaven.

hopefully more and more people see "golden rule" so the model in life so that the world becomes harmonious and there is no need to hurt, even just with our words and writing.

Yes for sure we should behave as we want others to behave with us. We generally tend to look down upon someone but what if they look down upon me in a similar me. Or maybe someone else looks down upon me like that. Everyone for sure would never want that to happen however if we follow the golden rule we can see the changes coming and that too really quick.

seeking peace rather than making new enemies is really a wise move. I did make friend in the end with someone who downvoted me before. Even there was slight anger but I choose to change for the better. Today, I found some success in steemit but still a long way from being succcessful.  We need friends to support one another in steemit so you did the right thing.

The good thing about steemit is that it encourages good behavior, no one will upvote your - bad/abusive comments - they may get flagged. You play nice and everyone shows love.....lol

Sometimes simple letters distort the correct sense of written and misunderstanding appears. Too most concerns a punctuation. Often people on the Internet don't attach significance to a punctuation.
If the executioner receives the order "Execute, It Is Impossible to Pardon", then the axe is used and if to move a comma slightly more ("It is impossible to execute, to pardon") - the execution is cancelled. (Казнить нельзя помиловать -
the original version of the saying). This known Russian saying illustrates a role of characters of a punctuation.
And in general it is necessary to be just polite and even if have faced rudeness, not to answer the same.

The Golden rule can never be over stated. And it's quite unfortunate that people that treat you bad start to complain when you decide to return such ill favours. Sometimes, acting as the mature one gives you a better edge.

To put it into different words, "do unto others as you would have done unto you," means that one should treat others as one wants to be treated. Obviously, we all want to be treated well, right? If one does not want to be picked on or bullied, alienated, or ostracized, one should not pick on, bully, alienate, or ostracize anyone else. Theoretically, this would work to create a pattern of good will: if I treat you well because that is how I want to be treated, then that will put you in a good mood, so you are more likely to treat your friend well, and that will put him in a good mood, and he will treat his sister well, and so on and so forth. Even if it does not work out this way, then I have still behaved in a good and moral way, and I can feel good about that. It is almost like saying: no matter how anyone else treats you, you can still do right and treat them well.

No one wants to be treated badly, may it be on line or face to face. I hope this would be enough motivation to apply the golden rule everyday in every manner, every way. Thanks for sharing, @yabapmatt

The Golden Rule is positive in nature and by it, Christ commands positive action. Rather than simply tell us not to hate, Christ tells us to actively love others. For example, do you want others to protect and preserve your life when you are in danger? Yes. Therefore, in order to keep the Golden Rule you would need to do the same to others, seek to protect and preserve their life. Shortly before His crucifixion Jesus told His disciples, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:34–35). "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is one way to explain what loving others looks like in practice.

It is for sure the greatest challenge, Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I haven't come across much distasteful commenting on steemit as there existing outside of this platform, and to some extent I was somewhat suprised. I was wondering if this had to do with folk not wanting to offend and hence get voted down. Either way it is a refreshing change.
But the power lies in our hands. The only experience we can deal with, is our own. Not only how we react, but how we act and operate in the world.
It is always good to raise these issues so we can take stock an evaluate just how well we are oding in the generousity-of-spirit department. Thank you for the reminder.

Interesting concept what you call the Golden Rule, it is not easy try to empathize with everybody but "stop" "think" and apply this rule is the best action anyone can do, probably if the other side is attacking the golden rule action will disarm this person and you could change the situation inmmediatlly. That is indeed very true many pretend that this rule doesn't applyin their lives but sad but but certainly that is how life works its the law of nature it comes without any invitation.

I think steemit offers a platform for both spreading kindness and rudeness. This post has inspired me to pursue the second one more. I remember the first time someone upvoted my post and left a nice comment, I was so happy! I think all of us could benefit from following the golden rule as much as possible, thanks for the inspiration!

It can be so hard to understand where people are coming from, what makes them take the actions they do... we’ve gotta be kinder. Personally and I think there are sooo many here on steemit who feel this way too: I’d love steem to be able to be an internet haven among social sites. Indeed, when I first joined one of the things that amazed me the most was how kind everyone was. Given recent in-fighting, we’re up against a large challenge and I hope many can hear your words and take them to heart 💜

i think it is difficult to treat someone with kindness when they attacked and  wronged you
but what i personally do i remain silent and doesn't respond 
if every one could apply the golden rule then this world would have been different!

Lol. Yea. It really does deviate from the norm. But a little deviation is some fresh air from time to time. It is necessary every once in a while. 


The golden rule is an excellent principle. I like to believe that it transcends all religion and moralsl. If only we all lived by it, we might have had a better world.

I try to live by the golden rule, not just in the words I use, but also in the content I upvote. That is why I use my SP to elevate worthy posts instead of paying for bots to elevate my posts. It is what I would want others to do for me!

Fascinating idea what you call the Golden Rule, it is difficult attempt to identify with everyone except "stop" "think" and apply this administer is the best activity anybody can do, most likely if the opposite side is assaulting the brilliant lead activity will incapacitate this individual and you could change the circumstance inmmediatlly. I am certain this is the most ideal path, attempt to identify do what we hold up from others.

I have never personally met you, but I hear of you and the things you are doing on the Steemit platform and for other Steemians constently.
