As much as I have searched for information on when the trombone became part of Caribbean music, I have not been able to find significant data. What has been very clear for history are some names that have contributed to consolidate it as one of the most quoted instruments in this genre.

In Hive, my passion for this instrument is well known, which I have studied and which I like to play, even though I am just an amateur. But my passion for it began as soon as I returned from Europe to Venezuela in 1975 and that complete story is [told here](https://peakd.com/hive-148441/@ylich/making-a-dream-come-true).

I came back to live in a barrio in the west of Caracas, Catia, where salsa was the predominant music and at that time there was a Venezuelan band that was new and had a powerful sound, despite being a sextet: the [Dimensión Latina](https://peakd.com/danceweekend/@ylich/la-dimension-latina-in-danceweekend-english). The fundamental hallmark of this group was its two trombones. This was simultaneous with the growing popularity in our country of the New York trombonist, producer and singer [Willie Colón](https://peakd.com/danceweekend/@ylich/williecolninmymusic-ik1qfaar2r).

But those were times that were marked by other great interpreters of the instrument, among them **Barry Rogers**, who became a legend for his way of playing.

Undoubtedly, one of the elements that contributed to the consolidation of the trombone in Latin music has to do with its connection with jazz (a genre in which the trombone is a leading instrument) and the kind of parallelism that was created between jazz, Latin jazz and salsa. Beyond the fact that it also happened that many musicians with musical training in martial bands and orchestras, were introducing their instruments in popular music.

Thanks to my experience as arranger and director of the group [Los Cañoneros](https://peakd.com/music/@ylich/los-canoneros-and-me-a-history-1), I had the opportunity to work with this instrument. **Salvador Sáez**, who was the trombonist for several years and was my teacher to start playing, allowed me to see the enormous potential and richness of sound of this instrument, which is also part of the brass section, as well as the wind section of an orchestra.

This is one of the most present instruments nowadays in Caribbean music orchestras and we can appreciate them in projects such as **Marc Anthony**, **Tromboranga** or the orchestra **Los Adolescentes**.

Por más que he buscado información de cuándo entro el trombón a formar parte de la música caribeña, no he podido encontrar  datos significativos. Lo que sí ha quedado muy claro para la historia son algunos nombres que han contribuido a consolidarlo como uno de los instrumentos más cotizados en este género.

En Hive es bien conocida mi pasión por este instrumento, el cual he estudiado y que me gusta tocar, a pesar de que no paso de ser un aficionado en el mismo. Yo llegué a vivir en un barrio del oeste caraqueño, Catia, donde la salsa era la música que predominaba y en aquellos tiempos estaba en pleno apogeo, una banda venezolana que era nueva y que tenía un sonido poderoso, a pesar de ser un sexteto: la [Dimensión Latina](https://peakd.com/danceweekend/@ylich/ladimensinlatinaindanceweekendespaol-s71prao02s). El sello fundamental de este grupo eran sus dos trombones. Eso fue simultáneo con la creciente popularidad que estaba teniendo en nuestro país el trombonista, productor y cantante neoyorquino [Willie Colón](https://peakd.com/danceweekend/@ylich/williecolninmymusic-ik1qfaar2r).

Pero esos fueron tiempos que estuvieron marcados por otros grandes intérpretes del instrumento, entre los cuales destaca **Barry Rogers**, quien se convirtió en leyenda por su forma de tocar.

Sin duda, uno de los elementos que contribuyó al afianzamiento del trombón en la música latina, tiene que ver con su nexo con el jazz (género en el cual este es un instrumento protagonista) y a esa especie de paralelismo que se creó entre el jazz,  el jazz-latino y la salsa. Más allá del hecho de que también sucedió, que muchos músicos de formación musical dentro de las bandas marciales y orquestas, fueron introduciendo sus instrumentos en la música popular.

Gracias a mi experiencia como arreglista y director del grupo [Los Cañoneros](https://peakd.com/spanish/@ylich/los-canoneros-y-yo-una-historia-1), tuve la oportunidad de trabajar con este instrumento. **Salvador Sáez**, quien fue el trombonista durante varios años y fue mi profesor para yo empezar a tocar, me permitió ver el enorme potencial y la riqueza sonora de este instrumento, que también forma parte de la sección de metales, así como la de vientos, de una orquesta.

Este es uno de los instrumentos más presentes hoy en día, en las orquestas de música caribeña y los podemos apreciar en proyectos como el de **Marc Anthony**, **Tromboranga** o la orquesta **Los Adolescentes**

Por todas esa razones, es el trombón otro de los instrumentos que forma parte de mi proyecto. Dos trombones, que se unen a la trompeta en sus funciones melódicas y armónica y que se complementan con otro instrumento que les contaré más adelante.

Yo creo que el trombón le da un sonido único a la salsa, claro en combinación con las trompetas, la verdad es interesante todo lo que nos cuenta..

No sabía que vivía en Catia, hace poco estuve en caracas viese sido increíble conocerlo en persona...

Uno de mis instrumentos favoritos es el trombón. Si algo reconozco que es un instrumento con una sonoridad increible. Recuerdo en una oportunidad estaba ensayando con un amigo trombonista y me impresiono su capacidad para hacer que este sonara fuerte. Su sonido arropaba toda la sala de ensayos. La Dimensión Latina me trae tan bonitos recuerdos. 

En mi niñez no faltaba en una reunión familiar. Recuerdo a un amigo que partio a otro plano  con la Pandemia, era tronco de trombonista. El estudió después de los 55 años. Alguien digno de mi admiración.  Definitivamente el Trombón y la Salsa estan comprometidos y unidos para siempre. Felicidades maestro.
