In the family there is a very particular character, this is my uncle Jesús María Puerta, I guess he has been called by his nickname "Chusmaria" all his life. I remember that for many years of my life I believed that literally that was his name, the years passed and perhaps the innocence of childhood until I deduced that it was a composition of two names, Jesus and Mary. Believe me it did not happen only with him, in the countryside nicknames are more common than one can imagine.

When I think of my uncle, I have very clear in my mind two well marked stages that perhaps do not correspond to each other. The first one I only knew through the stories and tales told by my sister, my cousins and aunts, where they say that he was evil because he always managed to bother them, he hid their toys, threw them far away and so on, and several actions that defined him as someone "tremendous". When I reflect on this, I suppose that this was when he was very young, maybe just coming out of adolescence, and he had those games, maybe a little heavy, but for the girls at home they were a total cruelty and even more so if he messed with their adorable dolls.

The second stage is marked by two versions that bordered on being almost a super hero, my uncle when he was younger had an enviable physique, was of strong build, with a height that easily exceeded the average and a robustness that at first glance claimed the attention of all. I remember that he was a baseball player and everyone knew that he was the strongest on the field, it was almost legendary, because everyone remembered the home run that had gone over the giant trees in the center field of the "Santo Domingo" stadium.

To this legendary aspect, he added several fights and brawls in the social club of "Campo Alegre" where he could easily get rid of 2 or 3 fighters and not suffer any scratches. So for me and for everyone else, the guy was a great super hero. That was the first impression I had of him.

Years went by and the uncle managed to marry an exemplary woman named Alicia Silva, who by then already had two children and that was not an impediment to bring cousins Jesus and Ali into the world, and finally be his complement of life by forming the wonderful family "Puerta Silva".

The uncle has proven to be a total "man" from beginning to end, he has brought forward his large family with strength, commitment, work, courage and judgment to face with humility all the successes and failures that have crossed his life.

Among his virtues we can count loyalty, being a good friend, a tireless worker, his generosity gushes like a spring that surpasses all summers, his joy is contagious and everyone wants to be part of it, love and family occupation are his signature wherever he is and so many other things, all good things.

For some years now he has been affected by the lack of control of his glycemia values, but this has not prevented him from continuing his life, perhaps with more tenacity. Although the cousins say that he is joking a lot, maybe it's the years :). Right now he has some health problems, but as always, he is demonstrating his super hero qualities and the situation is already well under control.


His contribution to the family is invaluable, besides the teachings he has given us all, the most important thing is that his children have followed his lessons to the letter. Now they are good men and are in charge of the productive and economic processes and the responsibility that the home deserves.

In one of the stages of my uncle's life, perhaps in his most productive moment, is that he came to own several cars for his work in the field. But he also owned two Jeep cars, I am sure that many people remember him when he drove all over the countryside, the town of Curarigua and, if I am not mistaken, part of the city of Carora including Barquisimeto. The truth is that, it is undoubtedly his taste for these rustic cars.

In my recent visit to the land of my family, "Campo Alegre" hamlet son of the town of "Curarigua de Leal" I could see an abandoned Jeep, but that still resists the passage of time and weather. When I saw it, my first thought was clear, the light and kindness of my uncle "Chusmaria" was there with me and I immediately set out to take a picture, which I show you below after making some arrangements of my own inspiration.

En la familia hay un personaje bastante particular, este es mi tío Jesús María Puerta, supongo que toda la vida lo han llamado por su sobrenombre "Chusmaria". Recuerdo que durante muchos años de mi vida creí que literalmente ese era su nombre, pasaron los años y quizás la inocencia de la niñez, hasta que deduje que era una composición de dos nombres, Jesús y María. Créanme que no me sucedió solo con él, en el campo los apodos son mas comunes de lo que uno se pueda imaginar.

Cuando pienso en mi tío, tengo muy claro en mi pensamiento dos etapas bien marcadas y que quizás no se corresponde una con otra. La primera solo la conocí a través de las historias y cuentos relatados por mi hermana, mis primas y tías, donde cuentan que era malvado porque se las arreglaba para siempre estar molestándolas, les escondía los juguetes, se los arrojaba lejos y así varias acciones que lo definían como alguien "tremendo". Cuando reflexiono sobre esto, supongo que eso fue cuando él estaba muy joven quizás saliendo de la adolescencia y pues tenía esos juegos, quizás algo pesados, pero que para las niñas de la casa eran una total crueldad y más si se metía con sus adorables muñecas.

La segunda etapa está marcada por dos versiones que rayan en ser casi un super héroe, mi tío cuando estaba más joven tenía un físico envidiable, era de contextura fuerte, con una altura que superaba fácilmente el promedio y una robustez que a primera vista reclamaba la atención de todos. Recuerdo que era jugador de beisbol y todos sabían que era el mas fuerte en el campo, era algo casi legendario, pues todos recordaban el jonrón que había pasado por encima de los gigantescos arboles del jardín central del estadio de "Santo Domingo".

A este aspecto legendario, se le sumo varias riñas y peleas en el club social de "Campo Alegre" donde podía deshacerse fácilmente de 2 o 3 peleadores y no sufrir ningún rasguño. Así que para mí y para todos, el tío era un gran super héroe. Esa fue la primera impresión que tuve de él.

Pasaron los años y el tío logró casarse con una mujer ejemplar llamada Alicia Silva, que para entonces ya tenía dos hijos y que no fue impedimento para traer al mundo a los primos Jesús y Ali, y ser finalmente su complemento de vida al formar la maravillosa familia "Puerta Silva".

El tío ha demostrado ser un total "hombre" de principio a fin, ha sacado adelante a su gran familia con fuerza, con compromiso, trabajo, mucha valentía y juicio para afrontar con humildad todos los éxitos y desaciertos que se han cruzado en su vida.

Entre sus virtudes se puede contar la lealtad, ser un buen amigo, un trabajador incansable, la generosidad le brota como manantial que supera todos los veranos, su alegría es contagiosa de la que todos quieren ser parte, el amor y la ocupación familiar son su firma en el lugar que se encuentre y así muchísimas cosas mas, todas buenas.

Desde hace algunos años ha sido afectado por el descontrol de sus valores en la glicemia, sin embargo esto no ha impedido que continue su vida quizás con mayor tenacidad. Aunque los primos dicen que está echando mucha broma, que quizás sean los años :). Ahora mismo anda con algunos inconvenientes de salud, pero como siempre, está demostrando sus dotes de super heroe y ya está bastante bien controlada la situación.


Su aporte a la familia es invaluable, además de las enseñanzas que nos ha regalado a todos, lo mas importante es que sus hijos han seguido al pie de la letra sus lecciones. Ahora mismo son hombres de bien y se hacen cargo de los procesos productivos, económicos y la responsabilidad que amerita el hogar.

En una de las etapas de la vida de mi tío, quizás en su momento productivo mas álgido, fue cuando llegó a poseer varios automóviles de carga por sus labores en el campo. Pero también se hizo dueño de 2 carros rústicos de la marca "Jeep", estoy seguro que muchas personas lo recuerdan cuando se andaba todo el campo, el pueblo de Curarigua y si no me equivoco parte de la ciudad de Carora incluyendo a Barquisimeto. Lo cierto es que, es indudable su gusto por estos carros rústicos.

En mi reciente visita a la tierra de mi familia, "Campo Alegre" caserío hijo del pueblo de "Curarigua de Leal" pude observar un Jeep abandonado, pero que todavía se resiste al paso del clima y del tiempo. Al verlo, mi primer pensamiento fue claro, la luz y bondad de mi tío "Chusmaria" estaba allí conmigo y de inmediato me dispuse a realizar una fotografía, la que les muestro a continuación después de hacerle algunos arreglos de mi propia inspiración.
