<div class="text-justify"> As we know, in our country each university has its own admission procedures and well-defined planning. Particularly in the institute where I currently work, we are about to finish the first academic term of the year and start the second term. However, we are planning to carry out the introductory course for new students in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in the area of Technology.

This course is similar to the propaedeutic course. [Propaedeutic](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proped%C3%A9utica) is related to the set of knowledge required to prepare for the study of a subject, science or discipline. This course is generally evaluated and this way it is possible to enter higher studies. 

At the end of last year I had the opportunity to participate for the first time in this type of course, in the area of chemistry, with a high participation of students after the long time away from the classroom. It should be noted that in our case this course is not evaluated since the students who participate have already made the respective registration. That is why it is important to know what it consists of and what benefits it offers to those who decide to participate.

Basically, it consists of attending classes for a determined period of time alternating with professors from different areas in previously organized groups where they are provided with support material and counseling, and may also include diagnostic tests to measure progress. 

**_Now, what is its purpose and benefits?_**
First of all, the purpose of this course is for students to get to know their professors, interact with their classmates, get to know the institute's facilities, and the study methodology, since it is very different from the one they used to have at school. 

It allows students to clarify any doubts they may have regarding the career they have decided to study and thus explore their vocation.

On the other hand, it seeks to motivate students and guide them in this new stage by providing them with clearer and more specific information about what is required. It is an experience that will allow them to live the study rhythm they will face and in this way create study habits.

It allows them to level the basic knowledge that they must have in a certain area. For example, in the area of chemistry, the objective is to strengthen the basic knowledge required for the study of the different thematic units especially contemplated in the first semesters of study, including clearances, calculations of concentrations, formulation of compounds, among others, in order to identify their weaknesses in this area.

Not all students participate in this type of courses, however, it is recommended because it offers some benefits and allows them to receive training in different areas that will be useful.
