### Hello friends of the community!

This time I want to share my experience of how we at home are preparing for the return to school. This school year my son will be in the third grade of primary school and will return to the school where he has studied since kindergarten, however, despite the fact that he will remain in the same school, when a new school year begins, parents always have some doubts, concerns, expectations and great excitement.

This reminds me of my student days where I was very excited to start my classes with my new uniform, my new school supplies and return to see my friends after a long holiday, so I want to accompany my son to live these experiences that remain engraved in our memories and thus motivate him in his return.

In the case of my son, one of the main changes for this new year is to attend the school in a totally face-to-face modality, because until last year my son attended three times a week, as the biosecurity measures were maintained, and we avoided attending a large number of children in the classrooms due to the small spaces. 

However, despite the situation experienced in recent years due to the pandemic, the return to school has excited many children who have been affected by having to stay at home for long periods of time, not being able to play freely and share with their friends. That is why at home we are already preparing for this return, and continue to take care of the family.

The return to school will totally change the routine at home, as my son has to attend school every day at the established timetable, so as a family we have to plan ahead and in this way fulfil our responsibilities.

Last week we had the opportunity to meet his new teacher, so we started by telling him that in his third grade he will be guided by someone else, highlighting the positive aspects to prevent him from feeling sad, as they shared good times with his second grade teacher, where they shared games, outings, parties and many others.

It is important to accompany them to familiarise them with their new environment, teachers, classmates, their new classroom, especially on the first day of school, as this can generate fear, uncertainty or other feelings in them, and we must be attentive.

One question we are often asked is how many days until school starts, and sometimes they say they would like more days off, and that is where we take the opportunity to highlight all the good things that the return to school will bring. It is common that at first it is difficult for them to get up early and comply with their routine, so we have to be patient as they come from a period of sleeping more hours, watching TV during the day and playing most of the time, so we can gradually regulate their schedules.

In the last few days, we have integrated him in the purchase of his school supplies, where he has been able to choose some of his favourite ones, and we have also started to organise and prepare his study place, in this way encouraging him and showing him the benefits of studying in a tidy, clean place and a space where he can carry out his activities.

Finally, talking with my son in relation to this subject has allowed us to know part of his doubts and concerns in this new school year, so we must support him, accompany him and at the same time enjoy these unique moments as a family.

It is possible that as parents we feel anxious, and even unwilling to return to work, or to the routine of taking our children to school and accompanying them in their homework, but if we are overwhelmed and tired, they may become discouraged and not want to return to school.
