Do you know how much garbage you generate each day? We make it easy, think about the purchase you made the last time you visited the super, something normal: eggs, milk, some fruit, a few pieces of vegetables, some drinks, meat and fish. And now think of the packaging in which all these products are sold. The eggs carry a cardboard and, probably, a plastic cover; the milk comes in a tetrabrick or a plastic bottle; the pieces of fruit and vegetables, each in a small plastic bag; drinks in plastic or glass bottles and, finally, both meat and fish, will be carefully placed in a well covered polystyrene tray with another plastic film. All that in a simple purchase ofbasic products . Well now multiply all that waste for each of the homes in your city ... Horrifying, right? Where do all those rubbish come from? The habits of life and consumption have changed radically with respect to a few decades ago. Our pace of life is getting faster, we need products here and now, we consume quickly and to a much greater extent. The working hours are long, the pace of life frantic and our need to consume increasingly large. We do not have time to go to the market , to compare price and quality, or almost to make us food - hence the precooked food occupies more and more space on the shelves and showcases of the supermarket that, on the other hand now, opens almost 24 hours. Paradoxically, parallel to the change in the pace of life that so many psychological and nervous diseases cause today, we have begun to worry about our health and hygiene in general in a somewhat obsessive way. Yogurts that increase our defenses , milks and shakes enriched with proteins, vitamin complexes that help us to have more energy and be healthier ... A host of products with added properties that, at least according to their publicity, help us to live better. These two changes have meant that, on the one hand, we now want our products to be packaged scrupulously so that, at least in appearance, they give us a sense of hygiene, neatness, health; hence the unnecessary propagation of plastic wrappers with which they offer all foods; the more wrapped less pollution . On the other, the vertiginous speed of our lives, leads us to reduce extra worries; now we do not have time to return glass containers to be reused, and the plastic is cheap and fast to produce (not to eliminate!), so, voila , all wrapped in plastics. Waste zero? If possible In any case, we are all aware of the risks involved in generating so much waste and the path that this " throwaway " rhythm of life is leading us to . In this sense, proposals are born like those of Original Unverpackt , the first supermarket that does not generate waste. Incredible but true. In this original establishment, waste generated by packaging has been reduced to absolute zero. No product is sold packaged, but all food is purchased in reusable packaging : saving money for the user (who also only buys the exact amount of product he needs), for manufacturers or producers who do not have to package their products and Respect for the enviroment. Do not you think an initiative, the least interesting? As we mentioned in previous articles, when we introduced you to the Slow Movement , maybe we should start thinking a little more about reducing our unbearable pace of current life, relax and start taking care of ourselves and the planet in which we live, do not you think ?
