Good day, Splinterlands community! Today, I'm sharing another valuable highlight card in some many battles. I'll share a battle experienced from my scholar account, demonstrating how this specific card performs in action and how I utilize it on certain rule sets like Noxeous Fumes. The card I’ll be introducing is Mar Toren Trader, a Rebellion reward card that I frequently use due to its versatile and unique use of the abilities synergy rule set.

Mar Toren Trader is a Common Rebellion Water-element card with 2 ranged attacks, 3 speed, and 7 health, making it a solid choice for various battles. Its abilities, Headwinds and Healing, indicate that this unit is a support type providing decent survivability with Healing. Headwinds reduce the ranged attack of all enemy monsters, which is particularly useful in battles where ranged attackers dominate. Meanwhile, Healing allows Mar Toren Trader to sustain itself over multiple rounds, increasing its survivability in drawn-out fights. This combination of abilities makes it a reliable backline support unit that can weaken the enemy’s range damage while keeping itself in the fight for longer or put this in backline position if you assume that opponent will use sneak attack strategy which then this unit will act as tank backline position.

In Noxious Fumes battles, where all monsters take poison damage each round, Mar Toren Trader’s Healing ability is incredibly useful. It can counteract some of the poison damage, allowing it to stay on the battlefield longer compared to non-healing units. Additionally, in Ranged-only battles, its Headwinds ability plays an important role in reducing the opponent's range damage by 1, giving your team an advantage in endurance-based fights. By pairing Mar Toren Trader with additional healing support or damage reduction abilities, it becomes a synergy well water element strategy with Angelic Mandarin surviving and outlasting opponents in these challenging rule sets.

I chose Kelya Frendul as my summoner because of the +1 armor and +1 speed bonus, which enhances both survivability and evasion, making it a perfect fit for a tanking strategy. My lineup featured Baakjira as the main tank, followed by Xenith Monk as a secondary melee tank with self-heal. Angelic Mandarin provided support by reducing enemy magic attack, while Mar Toren Trader debuffed ranged attackers with Headwinds. Doctor Blight served as a magic damage dealer with Poison and Affliction, adding extra pressure on the opponent. Lastly, I placed Torrent Fiend at the backline as a sacrificial unit to absorb sneak attacks. I prioritized a healing-heavy strategy to withstand the Noxious Fumes rule set and potentially push the battle into Fatigue, aiming to outlast my opponent in an endurance-based match.

My opponent opted for Helios Matriarch as the summoner and built a Martyr-focused strategy around Quora Towershead. They deployed Venari Marksrat, Vruz, and Fungus Flinger, all designed to boost Quora’s stats significantly. Quora Towershead is a formidable card with hybrid melee and magic attacks, Bloodlust, Immunity, and Heal, making it a dangerous late-game threat. However, the opponent may have overcommitted by using three Martyr units, when typically, two would have been enough for optimal adjacent required boost. The important question was whether Quora could withstand my sustained damage output or if my numbers and healing strategy would prevail.

As the battle progressed, it came down to a crucial moment—Quora nearly eliminated Baakjira, which would have shifted the match in my opponent’s favor. However, my Baakjira survived, allowing my team to continue dealing consistent damage.

Despite Quora's buffs, it couldn’t dodge my attacks and ultimately fell under the sheer volume of damage from my lineup. Without my healing-focused strategy, my team wouldn’t have lasted against the Noxious Fumes poison damage, proving that sustain-based builds can effectively counter high-risk, high-reward Martyr setups.
