I started this series, getting back into the lore and game. So let me start off by saying specifically about the T'au Empire that what I will share with you today about these aliens' lore is what I know about them from WHEN I faced them and was immersed in their lore! So on the Eastern side of the Galaxy, there is a solid bit of space carved out and controlled by the alien race known as the T'au. Before we consider what they are in the 41st Millenium, we need to consider what they were in the 35th... # The First Encounter with the Blue aliens ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmWwBBFqoHkxNpucHdfeN9Swm3ZKDv24jN3rHUquq4Xhcy/image.png) [Source](https://www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Pb05YqhZ54uKA5cW.jpg) The Imperium of Mankind colonizes many worlds. They are willing to go to war over resources against completely established peoples so they would not even think twice about pushing aside and killing a tribal, pre-industrial Age level civilization in order to expand their empire. Something that DOES scare off the Imperium are Warp Storms, this is when the Warp breaks or bleeds out into realspace and mankind has learned to get out of their way. Within a Warp Storm, reality and even time is... warped and changed. The Imperium made a hasty retreat, leaving their bases and everything behind as they fled. And then, from the perspective of the humans, when the Warp Storm retreated, in the place of the tribal world, there emerged a Space-faring technologically advanced race of idealistic aliens. In short, from the Tau perspective, various tribes had been at war and while they were in the warp a new, unknown group of Tau arrived and stopped the genocide and took command. I will make a post in the future about all the warning bells this sets off, but let's focus on the Tau as they are now and what they do in the game. # The T'au Empire and the Greater Good ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmQsZgqtMuiBQb1tuEoPngfGe9P76FhvFrmFTwy94mrSDy/image.png) [Source](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/1/17/Vespid_Fighter.png/revision/latest?cb=20151029154910) The blue aliens are not alone. They follow a Code and belief called the Greater Good and this has led this faction to make the most friends of any faction in Warhammer 40k, even more than Chaos (Which is an amusing concept!) The Tau give the worlds and armies they conquer a chance to join their cause. They integrate and assist other races into their Empire. This includes the above-pictured Vespid, the Kroot, Humans and many more. # On the Tabletop ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmXP5kmWdbqfsRC9sb32ZqXkJiGuDfDG4unmSi833D3dS9/image.png) [Source](https://www.wargamer.com/wp-content/sites/wargamer/2022/01/warhammer-40k-tau-codex-sept-rules-reveal-tau-army-viorla-models.jpg) To play Tau in the Tabletop is to have one of the best armies when it comes to shooting at range. They have advanced weaponry that allows them to remain fairly mobile and to put the enemy under immense pressure. The drawback? Tau are nearly useless in close combat. They use the warrior Kroot as a way to do something in Close Combat but the Kroot are lightly armoured so generally, they do not have the staying power of other close combat fighters. To play against the Tau is the reverse. Your enemy has massive guns and firepower, but when you get a handful of survivors into T'au lines, a wipeout occurs as that handful can handle most the Tau army. That's all for today's installment! Cheers! @zakludick ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmcoPQHCZpHmnJJtUNUXNFjQxs5qU6Vzh5Zt7dpxnLR2Th/zak_banner_brittandjosie.png) ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmWCxqwCcJUbJgNkGaqDDqp98j7t9iibKMbkGgPQUSkwkM/image.png) [Hive South Africa](https://ecency.com/created/hive-150289) ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmXm94xYy1ud2XENv7jBAtMtcZYAt3S1wG7YdpmmHW37Kw/img_0.3319650127542638.jpg)

Everyone's favourite fishy space folk ! One of the most effective tournament armies I ever saw was T'au. The friend who ran it was an excellent player anyway. He used some kind of rules shenanigans to just keep dumping drones on the table, about 36 of them a turn, every turn, faster than his enemies could knock them down. It was fun to watch the growing frustration of his opponents !

I was introduced to them in the book Last Chance Death Squad . There was a nice description of how tolerant they are .

Indeed they are tolerant... they have a lot of friends. I hope they bring more of their Empire's allies to the tabletop.
