Beer Saturday 206 - Patios, Pints and Pomegranates!
#BeerSaturday is at week 206 and I am charging towards summer and a lifted lockdown with a beer in each hand.

I became a beer blogger because of the years I have spent brewing for myself, the breweries I work with now on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing combine for the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist.

This week, I am equal parts fruity, strong, and surprisingly good!

# Pint of the Week

I am leaning back into the Pint of the Week as it has been rare to have one with friends outside of the home as restaurants and bars are closed to onsite service with the lockdown.  This one comes from a meeting where we had the chance to help setup and strategize with one of @town-crier's favourite clients.

 We walked down to the keg room, hooked up a couple lines to some craft beer and did our diligence testing them out!  This one is a West Coast IPA from Mill Street Brewery https://millstreetbrewery.com/  While not my favourite brewery, it still classifies as 3 of my top 3 favourite beers: Free, Lots, and IPA.  Just an added bonus that it is on the fanciest patio/terrace in town and is foreshadowing our cashing in on a bunch of rain cheques for beer soon!

# Pomegranate Honeysuckle Bullshit

First, I pour myself a fancy bullshit girly beer in a matching glass!  This one is from Cowbell Brewing https://cowbellbrewing.com/ which has recently claimed a spot in my coveted Top 10 IPAs with their Hazy Days Juicy Hazy IPA.  So, in my search for a lighter but legitimately tasty summer chuggers, I will give this one a try.

Pomegranate Honeysuckle https://store.cowbellbrewing.com/collections/craft-beer/products/pomegranate-honeysuckle-fruit-sour comes as advertised and I made sure to fancy it up by using my goblet style beer glass generally reserved for clovey Belgian wheat beers.  Pomegranate is popular with the family chicks, honeysuckle must be a branding thing, elderberries don't strike me as distinctively compelling, and surely only a foodie or hipster would have even heard of cassis.  

Either way, a nice treat I could sip in the sunshine.

# You Jutsu is Strong!

Speaking of hipsters, (maybe I should be calling the beer hipsters hopsters?  Yes I will) the hopsters I know love Bellwoods Brewery https://www.bellwoodsbrewery.com/  Jutsu is one of their mainstays and they have a few others that make it out this way to the local shelves.  I had to double take when I saw this one as it looks like its little brother.

As mentioned, Jutsu is listed as a pale ale and is something I pick up regularly.  Double Jutsu https://www.bellwoodsbrewery.com/collections/available-online/products/double-jutsu is listed as a Double IPA, swings heavily with 8% ABV and is about as hazy as a glass of orange juice.  What a tasty beer!  It this is always available, and not just another limited run, I would pick this up every time.  They are more expensive but I enjoy starting the night out blasting a clean palate with a bold and thick heavy beer that is formidable even when sipping slowly.

# Never Go Full Thunder

One thing I have come to enjoy over the last little while is seeing a new beer, preferably an IPA, from a brewery I am not particularly fond of.  That way, I can heckle them a little more, or be pleasantly surprised.  When a new on from The Collingwood Brewery https://www.thecollingwoodbrewery.com/ caught my eye, and I discovered that it was not only an IPA, but a Tropiskull Thunder IPA, you KNOW I have to grab one of those.

So, what the hell is a Tropiskull Thunder IPA https://store.thecollingwoodbrewery.com/products/freestyle-series-tropiskull-thunder ?  Maybe the side panel will fill us in and hopefully it is inspired by the Ben Stiller comedy of similar namesake.  Dry hopped (check) barrage of hops (me likey so far) including chinook, sabro and MOSAIC (okay you have me at Mosaic)  Deathly satisfying, alright I am all in.   

This turned out to be a solid beer and a damn fine IPA!  I will have to classify this as 'I will buy this again' because I have to revisit it before it is gone for good as many limited run beers are.  So good!

Well done Collingwood Brewery!  You have made it solidly onto my radar with this whimsically named and solid IPA.  I now am interested in tasting your other Freestyle limited run experimental beers, and even your standard IPA.

Oh yah that was a freshly-tapped West Coast IPA from Mill St as part of a marketing meeting preparing for a restaurant reopen this week.

Sweet and hoppy and so nice to be planning again with restaurants.
