My Dream Job
<div class="text-justify">

The thought of having a job gives me chills. Growing up, what we thought about having a job was the money and financial satisfaction that comes with having a job. I see a job to be so much more now. For me, it’s about doing what I love and making some money while I do it.

When most people say they want to become doctors in the future, they don’t say it because they love doing what doctors do. They say it because that’s what a lot of people around them want too and they feel like the only way to be important is to aspire to be what people feel respected to be. My Dream job is to be a doctor. I say this because I am passionate about helping people and what better way is there to help better than to look after their health?

I love what doctors do. I believe in the fact that choosing a job you don’t love doing is just as bad as marrying someone you don’t love. Choosing to do a job I love means even when I am tired, I still look forward to going to work the following day because looking after people’s health makes me happy. It is my way of giving back to society and my way of being an inspiration to the youth and young ones coming up.

I obviously didn’t just choose this because I love working so much. The money counts too even though it is not the most important. Doctors receive a decent pay that I can take care of myself and my family with. I am not the breadwinner of my family but I come from a family where all the abled support the rest.

Let’s also talk about the fact that doctors don’t work as much as most other professions do. Take a look at teachers for example. They go to the classroom for almost close to 12 hours a day and their salary still doesn’t balance the scale with that of doctors who only work like 5 hours a day. The fact that my profession gives me a lot of free time means I have more time for my family and to do other stuff like hangout with friends and other things.

What does being a doctor entail? It’s actually not that much. Basically listening to patients and figuring out possible causes of their illness based on symptons they describe, examine them, and writing them prescriptions to combat their sickness. At least that’s what I see doctors doing when I visit the hospital. They ask you a couple of questions to narrow down the cause of your illness. Then they direct you to a lab to do tests to confirm their diagnosis and they write you prescriptions to take to the pharmacy for drugs.

Being a doctor requires that you do Medicine in the University. To be eligible for entry into the University to do Medicine from SHS, you need to have had credits passes (A1-C6) in WASSCE examinations. However competition makes it a lot more difficult and raises the cut off grade. So you basically need a serious bunch of As to have an entry chance. I met the requirements, but was shortlisted due to competition in SHS so proceeded to read Bsc Biochemistry so that I can proceed to Obtain a Bachelor of Medicine after I obtain my BSC Biochemistry Cert. It’s not going to be easy, but I’m ready to sweat for it. God help me with this and help us all get where we want to be.
